So, I finished reading this almost a week ago, and I feel like it was a pretty solid 3.75 for me. Overall, I enjoyed it, but it was a hollow enjoyment because there were quite a few things in it that left me unsatisfied.
Specifically, I think these areas needed some work...
The deeper levels of world building beyond the sense descriptions.
The complexity of plot, and the structure in which the story was told.
And the character development.
Thoughts?
"I prefer imagery to complement a plot rather than substitute it." I found that in a review another user left on the book and I feel like it really sums up my feelings quite well.
As I find time passing after finishing this book, I feel like I should drop my rating a bit from what I ended up giving it. I feel like I had wanted this book to be 4 stars so badly that I was giving it leeway that it doesn't really deserve. Maybe 3.25 or 3.5 better represents my experience.
I agree with you Tricia. I gave it 3 stars, mostly for the imagery. The plot and character development were definitely lacking for me. I can see why this book is well loved, it just didn’t end up being for me. I’m glad we read it because it actually had been sitting on my TBR shelf for months.
Oh man I can't wait for the live show now that I've finished this book. 3/5 for me. Hope to see you all tomorrow!!
