True crime
Organised mafia
Cozy Mysteries
Cosy Mysteries with a male protagonist

-----------------------------------

Optional questions:

Oddly was one of my book of the month selections that arrived days before the challenge list was posted.

message 3: by Pam (new)

Pam (bluegrasspam) | 3924 comments I rarely read murder mysteries (except for Flavia de Luce) any more. However, I won a GR giveaway Moonshadows by Julie Whitesel Weston in 2017 that I haven't read yet. So, in keeping w the spirit of the giveaways, I plan on reading it in 2018. It has an historical fiction element so I think I may like it!

Cheri (jovali2) | 542 comments Just over a year ago I started a great mystery series by Zoe Ferraris that takes place in Saudi Arabia and features a female forensic scientist and a male detective, who is a Palestinian-Bedouin born. I loved the first book, Finding Nouf, and have been looking forward to reading the second in the series, City of Veils, for this prompt. I recommend the series to any of you looking for a book with a murder.

message 16: by Elise (new)

Elise (theblackhorizon) I read The Forsaken Inn by Anna Katharine Green, a fun and quick gothic tale set during the American Revolutionary War. I chose it because I want to read more books written by women in the 1800s, plus it's free via Project Gutenberg.

message 18: by Kimberley (new)

Kimberley Stoeger brzozowski | 42 comments For this category I chose Murder By Design: Inspired by Real Events in the Life of Frank Lloyd Wright. I enjoyed the book. Vivid descriptions and characters. Left me with some questions but cannot let the cat out of the bag, so you'll have to read it!

message 19: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Summers | 27 comments - What are you reading for this category? For this I read "Arrows Fall" by Mercedes Lackey. Book three in the Herald of Valdemar series.

- Why did you choose this book? In all honesty I read this book as a reread. I knew there was a murder in it despite it being a fantasy novel. I made it fit the topic rather then choosing it for the topic but Im ok with that. :)

I loved the first book in the UNSUB series and when offered a chance to read the ARC for this one I couldn't pass it up. These books are like reading a CSI and Criminal Minds mash-up. Highly recommend

Tammy | 704 comments What are you reading for this category?
I read Outer Dark by Cormac McCarthy.

Why did you choose this book?
I've wanted to read this for a while but I wasn't even sure if it met the topic's requirement. I figured, hey...It's Cormac...there must be a murder in the book somewhere. I have to say it...I was correct.

message 38: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Pederson | 12 comments Let Me Lie

I have mixed feelings about this book. It's not a genre that I would normally choose (mystery) but I did love the "english" references throughout so that's what kept me going. There is a part of the book that I found over-the-top dramatic, but I suppose necessary for the story line. The whole parking garage scene and ensuing "flat" scene felt like a cheap American TV production...very distracting and cheesy. Uneven is the word I would use for this book.

message 39: by Emma (new)

Emma (factandfable) | 182 comments - What are you reading for this category?

Top Secret Twenty Two by Janet Evanovich

- Why did you choose this book?

These books are not well written or anything, but I really wanted a quick easy read that would be a laugh, and these are good for that.

I read Room with a Clue by Kate Kingsbury
Why did you choose this book?
I have been wanting to start this cozy series, used it as a fill-in after a few more intense books, and there was a murder! So a perfect fit.

message 42: by Ann (last edited Jun 10, 2018 06:35AM) (new)

Ann S | 624 comments The book The Composer is Dead by Lemony Snicket is a great book for children, though the humor is much more geared to adults. It introduces children to the sections of the orchestra. But the accompanying music CD is so much fun. A good way for kids to complete this category.

message 43: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ashleym99) I read Jack & Jill. I chose this because I was reading the first few books of the Alex Cross series and it fit for this category. It actually contained multiple murders and two ongoing investigations.

message 44: by Rokkan (new)

Rokkan (rokk) | 97 comments I read Cibola Burn. It wouldn't be an Expanse book without someone dying. I chose it because the books are pretty addictive, and then shoehorned it into ATY because why not?

message 45: by Anne (new)

Anne | 326 comments I'm reading The Potter's Field by Ellis Peters, which I hope will contain a murder to fulfill this number. The Potter's Field (Chronicles of Brother Cadfael #17) by Ellis Peters

message 46: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 5 comments Hope you are enjoying it, Anne. I just read my first Ellis A Morbid Taste for Bones. I'm guessing you will get your murder before you reach the end.

message 47: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) | 5 comments Read The Angel's Game

I chose this book because I had read The Shadow of the Wind last year and really enjoyed it. This was almost as good, definitely kept my attention, and there were a number of murders to fulfill the requirement.

message 48: by Kathy (new)

Kathy E | 3476 comments I'm starting Funerals are Fatal by Agatha Christie. I chose this because I love Agatha Christie books and have been trying to read all her books.

message 50: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia (anastasiaharris) | 1732 comments I listened to this book and the narrator was great. The Girl Before. The book has a few twists with a house that is a character on its own. A good scary book for this prompt.
