Emi I often feel like i am stuck in this genre (which is NOT a bad thing), i sometimes wish that i could like other genres the way i feel about contemporary romance. Am i the only one who feels this way?

Well Contemporary Romance is by far my favorite go to genre, but I don't feel stuck in it. I do venture out of it and occasionally read a paranormal/fantasy or a mystery/thrill. Whenever I do I end up really enjoying them and wonder why I don't read them more often. hahaha I think for me I've gone through different stages of genres. I've ALWAYS read contemporary romance, but in my 20's I loved horror too! My 30's I was big on Mystery's and Thrillers too, My 40's I read graphic novels/comics too. Right now I mostly read Contemporary Romance and YA is a favorite, but the last couple of years I discovered M/M Romance and it has different issues from NA!! So between YA, NA, M/M and just Adult Contemporary Romance I get enough variety.

Sofia (sofiianna) | 5 comments I do all I read is dystopian but when I feel that i am so caught up with that book I read contemporary because they are so quick reads and you just fall in love with the book and can't put it down.

Vega_girl | 6624 comments I read a good mix of everything, but I find that no matter the genre as long as there is a love intrest I am game, however I am NOT a fan of horror or mystery thrillers. They give my nightmares and make my stomache hurt...

Karen I sometimes feel that way!

What's really helped is being part of a small buddy read group of 3-4 people where you all share a love for, let's say, contemporary romance but one of you also loves mystery, one loves historical and one is taking a classics class. If you take turns picking out the book for the group you will read contemporary often but also once in a while have a classic, mystery or historical in the mix. Also, there will be people to share it with/pressure you to finish. I did that and I read a few books I would have never picked up otherwise and it was such a breath of fresh air.

Also Reading Challenges, I'm trying one of those now and failing miserable because I can't stop reading my usual fare lol It's not as effective but maybe it works for some.

Karen I completely agree with buddy reads and challenges helping!! That is one of the reasons why in this group we don't restrict books read for challenges and buddy reads to be Young Adult Contemporary Romance only. We do restrict our Monthly Group Reads to be Young Adult only, but we want our members to enjoy reading different genres and still participate in our group. When Buddy Reading a book that isn't YA we just ask that when opening the thread we note what genre the book is, so if we have a young reader they know if it is a mature book.

Oh yes! I can't listen to more than 2-3 romance audiobooks back to back or it's all a big blur. They are too similar.

I like fantasy quite a bit. Let me know if you want recommendations. Let me know what you are looking for or maybe we can do a buddy read!

Mayra Biggs (mayrasissi) | 25 comments I read mostly romance, I've read 43 books so far, I did have to take a month long break from reading to process everything I just read.

Sometimes mixing up some fantasy into the romance works too. or historical romance. just stay within the same genre but sub-genre changes all the time.
