I am loving it so far - just started, but can't put it down. I agree with Devon, it is interesting to see such important history from the point of view of teenage girls who just want to be teenagers. I think the war years are glossed over because the girls were so disconnected from the turmoil. Just like many teens today, until something directly impacts them, there is little interest. This has sparked my curiosity about Russian history. I may have to read the classic bio Nicholas and Alexandra
(or maybe just watch the movie)
Thanks for the movie suggestion. I'll watch on the next 100 degree day when it is too hot to go out. Wasn't there a movie about Rasputin about ten years ago? Is it any good?
I just finished the novel and loved it. The relationship between the sisters was touching and felt very authentic. I appreciate that Sarah Miller did not gloss over the violence or the tsar's glaring flaws. Won't say more in case some reader's are unaware of the history - don't want to spoil it for them.
My account when down. So strange.
Also wanted to say, Olga's diary is available! The Diary of Olga Romanov: Royal Witness to the Russian Revolution
