15.4 - Endangered Animals
This is a list of the 10 most endangered animals in the world: 10 Most Endangered Animals. NOTE: the list can also be found in post 2 of the Help Thread.

OPTION 1:
Book 1 - read a book whose author's initials are found in the name of one of these animals. All initials must be found in the animal name.
AND
Book 2 - read a book with a title of at least two words in which the initial letter of each word of the title can be found in the name of a different animal from the list. Subtitles may be ignored.

OR

Option 2 - read one book that satisfies both of the option 1 criteria.

Letters may be used only as often as they appear in the animal's name. If there are multiple authors, only one author's name must satisfy the criteria.

Sandy - I think it is something weird w the GR app! The word is now there BUT when you scroll down and back up, it's gone again.

I imagine that the problem is with the app. Sorry, but there's nothing I can do about that.

Kim | 764 comments I just want to make sure I understand. Let's say my author is Anne Rice. Her initials are found in Amur Leopard. I can use the book The Vampire Lestat and satisfy the one-book option because the letters T, V, and L are found in a different animal -- Northern Sportive Lemur.

Is that correct?

Thank you.

The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy

1. Using the Amur Leopard to fit Arundhati Roy.
2. Western Lowland Gorilla (The God of Small Things - T from Western | God - G from Gorilla | of - O from Lowland | Small - S from Western | no match for Things as 't' already used)

You could use this for book 1 of option 1, but the title doesn't work since the necessary letters don't appear in the target animal name - the task specifies that "Letters may be used only as often as they appear in the animal's name."

That Inevitable Victorian Thing (2017) by E.K. Johnston

Author: E. and Johnston
Javan Rhinoceros

Title: ITTV = That Inevitable Victorian Thing
Northern Sportive Lemur

Thanks

Julia (julia103) | 2753 comments If an author uses a middle name do all three initials need to be in the animal name, or just first and last?
Lois McMaster Bujold: L and B are in Leatherback Sea Turtle and in Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, but M is not in either of those.

Alycia (alyciac) | 212 comments OK, I need to check this one:

Sorcery & Cecelia: or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot has two authors: Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer

Can I use either author's initials? Or do I need to use both of them?

And is "or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot" considered a subtitle, or part of the whole?

The task states: " If there are multiple authors, only one author's name must satisfy the criteria."

And the words following a colon are the subtitle.

that seems fine.

As a general rule, if you're asking about a specific book, it's a good idea to include a link.

What if the author is only one name? "CLAMP"? Or do I use the translator's name? Maria Simpson?"

if there's only one name, go with that. Translators aren't counted as authors.
