OLD POST:
"Xmas Book Exchange 2017" (give it a year in case we do this next year)

Early Morning on Dec 10th your lists must be ready! (because who know how long it will take me plugged into Matrix to match y'all)

Everyone who wants in please PM me your email address so I can PM your match and their email on Dec 10th - if all goes well and I don't f-up the Matrix Fabi showed me lol

That gives everyone 2 weeks to figure out what to get your person!

We've set the budget at $15 --- try to get it as close to $15 as possible, i.e. If you choose to get someone a book that's 2.99, throw in a 4.99 and a .99 or 7.99 or something to make it fair (and remember my suggestion of the audiobook add on feature that Maryse always has on her blog)

Then gifts must go out on Dec 22nd (Friday) so everyone will know that's the day to keep looking at you kindle every 5min!!!

UPDATE!!!!! PLEASE PM ME YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL ONLY
(thanks Robin)

Kooloo | 596 comments I'm good with that... anyone else want to chime in?!? Lol

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Sounds fun.

message 4: by Amy (new)

Amy (amy_nm) | 140 comments Maybe $15 and under? Some may have ebooks on their wishlist which are above $10 but below $15.

Opinions?

message 5: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I’m in! I can do $10 or $15–whatever! This sounds fun!!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I am good with that. Some books are around the 12 dollar mark. So the range will be .99 to 15? Lol.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

And remember pre orders, then it can be like getting the book twice.

message 8: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Sadly I think amazon still doesn't do gift vouchers on amazon australia :/ so I can't join in this fun idea. Never mind. Enjoy the xmas fun, ladies.

message 9: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments I think this is a great idea. Jan I buy all my books from amazon USA. It has heaps more variety. Probs triple. Just change your address to USA. You can still buy in aust dollars. I work in a bank in Melbourne and if you go get a travel money card load with US dollars there are no extra fees then buy the books in US dollars i buy a gift card and just place that on my account. Oh and cba has that card. Otherwise half the books Maryse talks about you can’t get. I’m good with .99 - $15.

message 10: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Thanks Melinda. One of my sons does something similar for his kindle orders. I will consider.

message 11: by Kooloo (new)

Kooloo | 596 comments BOOM! Melinda's bad banker ass just schooled y'all!

Ela | 4291 comments Sounds fun! I'm in....

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Jan, what about BN or Apple?

message 14: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments I think we should pick a $ amount and if the book is inexpensive then buy a few books or a gift card, that way Tessa won't be getting the 14.99 book while I'm getting a .99 one...

message 15: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Good point bev!

message 16: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Thanks for the suggestions ladies but I don't mind sitting out on this one.

It's not Tessa's fault you're cheap. 😂

message 19: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Jan (and anyone else not in the U.S.)--read this article. It was just written a little over a month ago, so the info is current:

https://www.howtogeek.com/328197/how-...

Jan, I'll be happy to give you my address to use. As the article says, as long as you're not getting 'physical products delivered', it'll work perfectly. And if you didn't want to do that, you could use an address similar to mine (I could find a street number that doesn't actually exist on my street). I'd hate for you to miss out simply because you live elsewhere!

message 20: by [deleted user] (last edited Nov 19, 2017 09:46AM) (new)

Or we could send you a physical book. Maybe to a post office so you dont have to give out an address.

message 21: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments I actually use Maryse’s address. It works. Nothing ever gets delivered. She’d probs die knowing that. Lol 😂 😂😂

message 22: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Thank you. You're all so sweet for thinking of me. I can actually 'change my country' and buy books from amazon.us instead of amazon.au anytime if I choose, and in fact I did that for a while after I was gifted an amazon voucher that could only be spent on amazon.us. Then I 'migrated' back to amazon.au. The only reason I would need to do it as described in the link article is to purchase books that for some reason aren't available at all on amazon.au. But I've found there aren't that many. Maybe Judith McNaught is the only author that frustrated me much so far like this, but I've got her books in old PBs anyway. (OK, font size 8, but, sheesh, I can deal).

I'm not sure I really know why at present I am choosing to remain on au rather than US. We're only a small market here, but I feel like with the number of kindle books I buy I must surely be one of their best customers LOL. But I do like reading the reviews by fellow Australian readers, and also publishing mine on the au site. I dunno.

I guess the easiest way for me to participate in this xmas exchange would be to temporarily migrate my account back to kindle.us. Then I could send my gift voucher and use the one I receive. OK, let's do it.

I'm in :)

message 23: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Yay! 😀

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Um.....because your Australian, lol. I think it would be cool to try another country but would migrate back too. Though I do wish we had more romance and YA from other countries published here, though really we are spoiled for choice.

message 25: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) The au kindle site also allows me to easily access reviews from the us site, which I do often look at cos usually there are only a few aussie reviews. e.g. 7 aussie reviews and 242 us reviews LOL for e.g. for a book I might be looking at. That kinda thing. But I still always read the aussie reviews first.

I think quite a bit of aussie stuff is published for US too. Sometimes you probably don't even know the authors are aussie. e.g. Kylie Scott, MELINA MARCHETTA, Garth Nix etc etc

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Wait who is this Melina Marchetta you speak of??.

Would it be horrible if I just gifted my person with Jellicoe Road and To Tell the Truth no mater what is on their list?

message 30: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments I would love to gift everyone with IAD, Arsen, and......see my favorites!

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

We’re such givers.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

So, should we pick a day to put our list up?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Should we have a book opening party?

message 34: by Nay (last edited Nov 19, 2017 05:25PM) (new)

Nay (4ukcats) I wish we could set up an ebook swap with all of us. There was a group of us who used to do them when I was on paperback swap ALL the time.

At first, the swaps were all for pb/hb books, and each one had a different theme--some were bdsm themed, some were m/m, some were YA, PnR, whatever genre or subgenre someone wanted to run, some were 'new release' swaps where the book had to have been released after a certain date. We had all kinds of different ones.

Then after all the players joined, the play order was revealed and the first person would have someone to 'reveal' for them. Then the revealer would post a book or books they were offering to that person. Then the next person would be messaged that it was their turn. There was also stealing involved, but I've forgotten some of the details. lol At the end, when everyone had taken their turn, we all mailed out the book that was picked from us to whoever picked it. Some would buy them from a bookstore and have them shipped to their person, but most of us sent used books from our own bookshelves (they had to be in decent shape, obviously.)

After years of only doing swaps with paperbacks/hardbacks (one of the ways I amassed so many books on my bookshelves), ebooks started becoming more and more popular, so we started doing ebook swaps. You'd either have to offer a book(s) that was lendable or be willing to purchase the book you were offering and gift it to whoever picked it once the swap was over.

I'm probably not explaining it very well, but it was SOOO much fun! We had a great time together, got to know each other better, and also got a book out of it.

Something about doing this just reminded me of them.

message 35: by Amy (new)

Amy (amy_nm) | 140 comments I totally need a list for whomever I'm buying for or else they are going to end up with something which will be ripping their heart out. 😉

message 36: by Jan (new)

Jan (jan130) Actually, I'm not sure how this will work. Are you able to purchase a specific kindle book and gift it to someone else?

message 39: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) That's what made me think about the swap game I mentioned above. We all had wishlists that people could peruse when deciding which books to offer.

message 42: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I put 10 on my list - I could have put 100's, but I thought that might be a wee bit much!!! This is exciting. I can't wait to see who I get to buy for - and I hope they have Kindle, cuz those are the only ones I know how to send - or are we purchasing a real live hold in your hand book? Or will it be the recipient's choice? Is it Christmas yet????

Nay (4ukcats) Jan130 wrote: "Actually, I'm not sure how this will work. Are you able to purchase a specific kindle book and gift it to someone else?"

Jan--yes, you can do that. There is a 'give as a gift' button on each Kindle book page.

message 44: by Nay (new)

Nay (4ukcats) Oooh, I'm making my shelf!!

message 45: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Aiello (lisaaiello) | 2460 comments I forgot to price check, so I went back...and damn, I'm a cheap date :) I do have one that's $9.99 on there - I'd NEVER pay that for book. Actually, I'm lying, I sure as heck would, LOL

message 46: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments lol My problem is, if I'd pay 9.99 for a book, I probably did. I have to REALLY love a book to want to pay that much.

message 47: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments THIS IS HARD!

message 48: by Ela (new)

Ela | 4291 comments Yup! I can't seem to choose!

message 49: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 1761 comments I finally went to YA fantasy and adult fantasy favorites and Goodreads' Best of for the last few years and chose those that began a series that I had on my wishlist.

message 50: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Ruyten | 1027 comments My problem is any book I want to read, I just buy. Where to begin. 🤔
