Why the emphasis on Puritan works? Something more modern and relevant specifically would be better for me.
One of each? On the modern side - how about one of Michael Horton's? Maybe 'Putting Amazing Back Into Grace' or 'Gospel-Driven Life'?
If anyone is still interested and not aware Tim Challies does a group read from time to time and is starting a new one reading John Owen's The Mortification of Sin.http://www.challies.com/reading-class...

John Bunyan's "Holy War"
Thomas Brooks' "Heaven on Earth"
Or just about any of Owen's volumes.
Any thoughts?
