I don't know if I will read another one of these. I think I am having a problem with the translation. it seems off to me where I know something is meant to be funny but I don't get it! I am going to keep going though.
I get what you mean - it strikes me like they might be inside jokes or more culturally based. I hear that some of his later books are better. When I finish, I will see how I feel.
I think at this point I would read more by him. It is for me very easy to read, so I am not having to force myself to concentrate but I think if the ending is crap then it may ruin wanting to read more, but we shall see.
Glad you are enjoying! It took me a little bit to get into it, but I think it got better for me at the halfway point. The beginning just felt a little disjointed.
But, since this is the author's first book he must have just been getting the hang of things. I see that some of his later works are much more praised and even some of his die hard fans think that The Bat his "worst" novel.
