Lauren (laurenjberman) Hello Team Elegant Man - this is your captain speaking...

Welcome to the challenge everyone!

Looks like I'm the only one from Europe so Tonya will be my esteemed #1 :0)

It is now 12:40 my time and I'm certain most of you are either still asleep or waking up, but I'm sure we will still have plenty of time for chatting.

Can't wait to get started!

Woo hoo!
It is a bit of a mixed bag with time zones. I tried to match them, but we had so many US participants, I ended up going more from books per year read. ;)

message 6: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) No worries, Karen! We will manage and thanks for all your hard work - you've done a fabulous job!

Thanks Lauren. I keep being distracted by your team image though.... maybe I should've picked a different one? lol!

message 8: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) No, no, no! Yes so sexy - we'll definitely be keeping him ;0)

lol
ok ok
well I guess it may distract the team so much that they can't read and beat my team ;)

See. That's the reason we also have Arrow, and Hook (the only reason I forgive you about it is because you didn't know), Castiel and Tom Cruise. Uhmmm... you choose the wrong Sherlock Holmes to the "distracting" effect.

Aha! Very sneaky .... you planned it this way. Naughty, naughty!

bahahahaha

And, actually, sherlock homes image was picked by Amanda so I'm not responsible for that one...

And yes my team is a car.... a cool one... but not a distracting one :D Means I can read more... lol!

Laura | 9707 comments Hi everyone, this is my first group challenge! I am very much looking forward to all the fun:)

message 15: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 418 comments Hello! Just checking in :)

After seeing all the other team names I thought maybe Elegant Man was a reference to a particular character so I was scouring my brain... but nope, just a random smexy guy :)

Team Elegant Man sounds a lot more sophisticated than Team Random Smexy Man so I approve ;)

Nathalie (nankinat) | 101 comments Hi all! This is my first group challenge as well. I'm hoping to up my number of books read this year, and this seems to be a good way to do it. :)

message 21: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Welcome everyone whose checked in :0)

Still waiting on Tonya and Kelly to check in and then we'll be ready for the spin!

Quick question: Once the genre is allocated, do we want to go with the first come, first served method for allocating letters OR do we want allocate the letter placement in advance, i.e., every week the first letter is read by X, the second letter by Y, the third letter by Z and so on...

Laura | 9707 comments Hi all, first come first served method would be my choice

message 26: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 877 comments First come, first serve.

message 27: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 418 comments Do we each have to do a letter each week? For example, if Lauren finishes two books that count, does that mean I can read a book in the genre instead?

Or if, say, Kelly is out of town for a week can we cover for her for that week?

And I agree with first come, first serve

message 28: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I don't think it matters who reads the books as long as we cover all the letters. However, I will ask in the captain's group just to make 100% sure :0)

message 29: by Laura (last edited Jul 12, 2014 08:24AM) (new)

Laura | 9707 comments Happy Reading everyone:) I am currently reading I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the TalibanI should finish it in a couple of days and hopefully work on another letter!

Great! So we have the "I" covered :0)

message 31: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I'm reading Grim Shadows (Roaring Twenties, #2) by Jenn Bennett - which works for the letter "R" as the series name is "Roaring Twenties"

message 32: by Nathalie (new)

Nathalie (nankinat) | 101 comments I just started Passage to Dawn by R.A. Salvatore for "S".

message 33: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Thanks Nathalie - have you down for the "S".

message 34: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ | 877 comments I will read One More Day by M. Malone for "O".

message 37: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 418 comments I'm close to finishing The Looking Glass by Jessica Arnold with a MC named Tony. So I could do "T" unless someone has a better "T" in the works?

message 38: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Hey. Sorry I thought it was Saturday nights in the US.

message 39: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments Did anyone pick a history labeled book yet?

message 42: by Tonya (new)

Tonya | 256 comments H everyone! it's Tonya aka Co-Captain. Sorry for the late check in, I can only blame it on the Book I am currently reading. Avoiding housework and social media today to keep reading, bad me. I will go back through and see what is left for me to fit in. :)

message 43: by Tonya (new)

Tonya | 256 comments I can do the H, I will be reading Housekeeping this week.

message 44: by Tonya (new)

Tonya | 256 comments I will have the O for the second go through, the Book I am caught up in is We Are Water, a main character is Orion Oh, and his ex wife, Annie Oh, then the kids. :) Great book if you haven't read it yet!

message 45: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Welcome Tonya and Kelly!

Rachel, I've got you down for the "T" and Kelly, you have the "Y"

Tonya - you have the "H"

Great teamwork everyone!

message 46: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Anyone have a book labelled "History" that they can read?

It only has to be labeled 10 times to qualify

message 47: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) OK, I'm done with Grim Shadows (Roaring Twenties, #2) by Jenn Bennett for the "R" and will read Blood Spells (Nightkeepers, #5) by Jessica Andersen for the 2nd round "S" (a character is named Sasha)

message 48: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Kelly wrote: "Looks like we can do characters first/last names so I'll do Y for Lilah Young in Animal Magnetism"

Really enjoyed this book, Kelly. The animals are a laugh riot.

The Cherry Adair books is also good. It was better than the 2nd book in the series.

message 49: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (ladykatala) | 5020 comments done with Vortex. I like that series quite a bit. I have to catch up with her other series.

Yes, I like her writing. I'm on book #6 of T-FLAC but haven't gotten round to it yet. Her Lodestone series is also very good.
