Waving hi to Leslie - you changed your profile pic so I didn't recognize you! Hope you are doing well.
Hi Leslie!! It is great to meet you!! Here is my introduction:I live in Pennsylvania - all my life. I have 2 children ~ 23, 22. I have a girl and a boy. My daughter is getting married this October so that is taking up some of my time. Just glad she is planning a small wedding and doing most of the planning herself. I just need to work on her shower.
I love to read too!! I read just about anything. Looking at my library you would think it is mostly romance and fantasy. I buy any books that are free. I read mostly fiction. Mystery, romance, suspense, fantasy. I will give anything at least a chance.
I work full time and do have access to internet but cannot get GR to load correctly. Plus where I will be sitting will be changing and I am afraid that my computer screen will be seen by others so I may not be able to log on as much. I will look at my phone but not post often.
As you can tell I do like to chat. Just about anything too.
Only a few days left before the first spin!!
Yes it is fun planning the wedding and my daughter is enjoying it. She is getting married in a barn.Congrats to your son and his wife on their impending addition!! And congrats to you to Leslie!!
That's awesome! Do y'all have a pinterest board to help plan? That's what we used. My daughter lives outside of San Francisco, so wedding planning was done long distance. It was outside at someone's house. And thank you! Hard to believe they've been married a year next week.
Yes I love ocean city. I live in the Maryland part, and I still can't get over that I live there and not just for vacation!!
Married in a barn?!! That is amazing :D I bet the set up is going to look real nice! That will make for great pictures :)
I have a pinterest but not a board for it. She has been doing all the planning and decorating ideas. I will be doing the decorating with my MIL and SIL. Hopefully the weather will be nice in Oct. They are having a very short ceremony since neither one 'believes' in God. They are just getting married by an ordained minister and my daughter told her no mention of God in the ceremony. That has to be great to live in any beach area and always feel on vacation. Did you move there for a job? I hope the pictures are nice. I haven't even been to the place I have only seen pictures online.
Hi back, Melissa!! I love it when friends come to visit!!We are still missing Araceli and Pigletto. Looking forward to meeting everyone on the team.
**I moved this post so I could reserve a spot for posting the weekly submission**Hi Team!! So glad I found y'all. I will be your captain for this fun adventure!
Since I don't recognize anyone on the Team, can we introduce ourselves.
I live in Louisiana - from New Orleans but not living there at the moment. I have 4 kids - 25,24,21,19 years old. I talk about them a lot and even occasionally post pictures.
I love to read - almost everything I read has some kind of romance in it. But I also read straight suspense and HF.
I'm working full time and unfortunately have no access to the internet during work hours. I can briefly get on at lunch on my phone. That is my major restriction. But luckily all posting happens on the weekend.
I love to chat - about anything - so I hope we have a group that likes that as well.
I'm so excited to get this started!
Hi Team!I will be the co-captain for this awesome challenge. My first challenge in the group and first time being a co-captain.
I live in Houston, Texas. I've lived here pretty much my whole life ( except for a brief stint in Miami. fl.)
I love to read pretty much any genre and love to discover new books. So, please recommend away. Right now, I am reading Unwind.
I can usually get internet access during the day, so Leslie let me know how I can help.
Excited to start this challenge and it is great to meet you all. :)
Hi Araceli! Welcome and so happy to have a co-captain. I'm glad we are on the same time zone. Makes it easier to figure out.I have reserved a spot to post our weekly submission. And I am in the process of making a spreadsheet to track our weekly books. I will post the link once I have it up in google docs.
I've done many team challenges - I love them. The most important points are for people to make sure and check in on the team thread, and to get your reading done in a timely fashion if the team is to be competitive at all. RL gets in the way of the fun of GR, but if you are having problems finishing your book during the week, just let the team know.
Hi Leslie,That sounds great! Definetly, great advice and good house rules. Cannot wait for this challenge.
So excited for this and World Cup final (huge soccer fan!!!!)
I am totally team germany!! ( but I am german, so I didnt jump on the band wagon!)I am also excited for the challenge to start. I did numerous team challenges in this group and it is fun!
Oh, I'm so glad we have soccer fans on this team!! I love soccer!Have to admit to pulling for Argentina - I love Lionel Messi (my husband's name is Lionel, but that's not why!)
Amy - have we been on a team together before?
I'm also going to send friend requests to everyone on the team. Araceli and I will need to verify that the book you are reading is properly shelved and the dates are correct.
Also, any book started on the 12th is good for this week. I have a couple of questions I asked about some of the rules and I will let you know when I have the answers.
I am so with you, Amy. I am a die-hard Germany fan. Been waiting for this moment since 2006!! I think this is our year!
*poking my nose in*I love to watch soccer and have driven some of my coworkers nuts with my updates on how the World Cup is going. I don't have a specific team I root for except for USA. I was kind of hoping Costa Rica would make it farther, I like underdogs.
For the finals, however, I am rooting for Germany since I spent 7 years studying the language and a semester abroad in Vienna, Austria during college. Also, USA has several Germans on our team, so it is not completely a betrayal of my home country. The USA-Germany game was very tension-filled for me.
Hi! I'm back again and can't wait to start :)A little introduction, I'm Claire, from over in England. I moved to the North East five years ago for uni and haven't left! Now I work as an Ambulance Technician answering 999 calls. I don't have any children yet although I'd like to one day.
I love to read, I have a minor addiction to free kindle books (although I've managed to curb the buying for the moment!) and so I've got hundreds of books on my Kindle to read! I'll give almost anything other than horror a go although I'm really enjoying romances and fantasy at the moment.
I work shifts on a rolling rota so, although I can get online when I'm at hospitals at work, I'll probably have four days where I'm more active and four when I'm less chatty :)
I've done a few team challenges in the past and I love them and the chatting in teams and I can't wait to get started :)
Oooh, Historical fiction? I don't tend to read a lot of it (although I've found a few good books in the past) but I'm reading a book at the moment that starts with a T (I've checked if numbers can be spelt out and they can :) ) and the next one on my list starts with an S, if that helps any. Edit: I've just realised author name and character names can count, in which case, the one I'm reading could count for S or N as well!
I don't know how you want to organise who reads what but I thought I'd let you know before I go out this afternoon :)
I think I'm in the minority here but I'm not a football fan. I don't hate it, I just don't see the attraction. And the stupidity of football fans when alcohol is involved makes my job difficult at times (honestly, jumping off a 10' roof to impress some children and then refusing to go to hospital with your potentially broken leg because the England match is on.....)! Having said that, if I supported any team, it had to be England and I'd probably be rooting for Germany in the final :) I've been to quite a few Newcastle United matches though (and a few Sunderland but usually hoping they'd lose) through first aiding, they're always a bit of fun :)(I feel like I'm posting a lot but I'm catching up on yesterday and putting off the housework :) )
Oh I have to say I go to sleep and the thread is active!! I love it!! And the first spin has been posted. I was planning to read a book Until I found you by Victoria Bylin but it won't fit any of the letters. The main female character is Kate. I do have some other books that should fit.I love Soccer/Football. My son used to play and I loved watching his team play. I am not rooting for Germany even though I am part German. I want Argentina to win, probably since they are considered the underdog.
Claire since I live in the US and Football in the USA is nothing like the Soccer/Football in Europe. I love the Soccer over the American Football. And the fans for American Football are just as stupid. The reason I love Soccer (especially watching the World Cup) is because there are no commercials until half time and the clock continues to run instead of taking timeouts for injuries and such.
No one at my work was watching it and when the USA had their games I was the only one wearing clothes that were Red, White, and Blue and people would ask me why. I would just stare at them.
Claire I too am putting off doing housework. I had exercise first and then I will head out to get my weekly massage.
Sorry I missed that the wheel had been spun. I've been lazing in the back on the couch.I will make a post with the genre we've been given. First come first served on letters but please chat and we can discuss. Series name also counts. For those of us who read more than one book a week, we can count any book that's finished this week.
Each letter we finish is 10 points. If we complete the word, we get an extra 15 points. Our word is pretty long this week. If you can read the genre, that's also extra points.
Hi Monica! Oh yeah, I'd forgotten football is a different sport in the US! I meant soccer :)Is it if we finish a book from today onwards or tomorrow? I'm a bit confused as I didn't think we were spinning until tomorrow!
I found a favourite of mine that will fit in somewhere and is historical fiction so I can cover the genre if you'd like? I'm usually happy to read whatever, even if I've not got one on my list with all the letters, I can probably find one from my store and I'll read that instead :)
One thing will help with organizing:Please make a separate post with the book you will be reading, with a link to the book's page and how it qualifies.
Each book you read this week, will need a separate post.
Hi Claire!! So happy to have you on the team.
We are still missing Pigletto. I will send a PM to her and see if she is planning on playing.
Also, it can be any character in the book - doesn't have to be a main character. I just asked this question of the mods. Just tell us who the character is in the book.
Week one:Daughter of Time: A Time Travel Romance - would fit for A (series title and character name), S (Author first name), L (Llywelyn - character). Also historical fiction genre
Footsteps in Time - would fit for A (series title and character name), S (Author first name), L (Llywelyn - character), F (title) and again historical fiction.
Depending on the week, I'll be able to read more than one book some weeks if my shifts fall right.
Right.... I really must get ready, do some shopping and go to town!
I have to go to a meeting this morning, but I will be back. I am checking with the mods on a book I started this morning. Then I will be able to list what I'm reading.I'm so excited!!
I am reading Shield of Winter by Nalini SinghHow it counts:
Letter S in title
Letter N in author's name
Letter I in character's name (Ivy)
