Please welcome a new member, Diane to your team!

Karsyn (imzadi) Welcome Diane!

We're still waiting on a few members to check in. I'm friends with Kim, so I'll let her know we're up and running here.

Still waiting to hear from ~

Diane 70 USA (CDT)

How is everyone looking for the week? Let's get some ideas going here. Luckily we don't have to scheme too much, since this is a straight spell-it-out challenge, but making the weeks easy on everyone is what I'm aiming for.

There are no hard hard letters ~ J Q V W X Z ~ are all missing from the list, so that's good. If your TBR pile is limited, let us know what letters are harder for you.

I've pretty much got every letter covered, Author or Title wise. I know we can use main character as well, but I'm going to try to stay away from that, since it's harder to verify. I'll wait til everyone has what they can/want to do and can fill in.

We should be getting our word sometime within the night.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2447 comments Hi new team. I was part of team Torchwood for about an hour before being moved here. It must have been fate because I was a bit worried over there having never seen Dr. Who.

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Nicole!!!!!!!

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Hi Karsyn!

This is my first Wheel-a-thon challenge, but I'll pick it up quick. I can't recall if this was asked on the other thread, but do we shelve all the books we read during the week? Or just the one we pick for that week's word? I have several challenges going and read pretty fast, so if the additional books will help...well...yeah team!

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "Hi new team. I was part of team Torchwood for about an hour before being moved here. It must have been fate because I was a bit worried over there having never seen Dr. Who."

Glad to have you with us, Diane! I haven't watched Doctor Who since David Tennant left.

He was my favorite doctor.*sniffles*

message 20: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I've never watched it, Diane, something my friend Kim probably thinks I'm nuts for. It's just not my thing. :)

Becky & All ~ I definitely think we should shelve any and ALL books we read on our Wheel shelf. That way we can also see if we have the books to use to spell out some of the words again for the bonus points.

All books will help! Let's use 'em all.

message 21: by Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (last edited Jul 11, 2014 06:46PM) (new)

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Cool beans! Um...do we have to empty the shelf each week of the books we've put into play?

For example: Our word is "Romance, I read "Rock Chick" and it's used for the "R," does it need come out of play for the next week? What about the other books? Do they carry over for the week or do they ALL come off?

Does that make sense or do I have this all mixed up?

message 22: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Nah, don't worry about emptying your shelf. We can just go by dates. It'd be too much of a pain figuring out what to keep and what to delete. We'll keep good track of what we use and so on, so we should be fine. :)

message 27: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Jul 11, 2014 08:56PM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Hi, everyone! My internet was down for a couple of days but the cable guy came today and fixed some wires so hopefully that issue is all in the past.

Since we earn bonus points for reading the genre that lands on the wheel each week, I thought it might make things easier to post my favorite genres here.

From the wheel:
1. Thriller
2. Suspense
3. Crime
4. Mystery
5. Young Adult
6. Chick Lit
7. Contemporary (romance, YA, lit, etc)
8. Biography
9. Romance
10. Fiction

Letters I know I have trouble reading are I and O. I've been trying to get those two letters taken care of for a Scrabble challenge I've been in for months. I'm sure if I looked at my TBR, I'd find books that qualify but I'm just going to assume that if I really wanted to read something with those letters in the title or author name, I would have done so by now. If it would help, I could share a list of all the current books I have checked out of my library, too. I can be a moody reader but if the team needs me to read a book of a certain letter I will do my best to accommodate!

I only read dead tree books and most of them are from my library but I do have a bunch of books on shelves at home that I really should read. I don't really buy new books and I can't tolerate e-books or audio because of my need to touch and see what I am reading.

You can call me Teresa or bakedgoods or ilovebakedgoods or Muffin! Muffin is a nickname that some other friends on NBRC gave me so if they happen to pop in and start talking to "Muffin", I didn't want anyone to get confused and wonder who this mystery muffin was, haha.

Glad to be a part of the team!

Karsyn (imzadi) Kim ~ You're a nut! love ya lady! :)

Becky ~ awesome. I don't work either, so we'll have loads of fun!! :)

Teresa ~ welcome Muffin. :) We'll definitely take your books into consideration first then, anyone doing the library thing needs to have priority I'd say. We'll see how everyone else is as well.

Thanks for your fav genres. Good idea.

message 29: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Everyone has checked in! Great!! :) Now we're just waiting for our word.

I should warn you, if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have none, so we'll probably end up Current Best Seller or Historical Fiction first, the other one second. LOL!

Becky, are you a night owl or a morning person?

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Oh, joy of joys we get an easy one for the first week!*sarcasm*

I didn't know Middle Grade was a genre! LOL!

I'm a newbie at this co-captain thing so bear with me this week until I figure this out! Let's pick our books and post our selections, then we'll work on filling in the gaps! I'll keep track of our selections in this post: Team Progress unless we come up with a better idea?

I have no clue if I'm doing this right. Karsyn? Suggestions?

I'm not sure that I should admit to reading quite a few books in this genre over the last year... lol!

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments I may have to try it, Karen! It might be nice after a heavy book or a tearjerker.

Absolutely. Nice change of pace
I would recommend
The Case of the Missing Marquess An Enola Holmes Mystery by Nancy Springer
as a great series for this age group
so is The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice, #1) by John Flanagan

message 40: by Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (last edited Jul 12, 2014 03:47AM) (new)

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Those both look good!

Everyone - Karsyn and I will check back in a few hours to see where we are on book selections. I'm a pretty fast reader and have a second book that will work for the letter I, but I'll hold off awhile until everyone has a chance to look over their shelves. Please let us know if you have any questions and let's have some fun!

How Spell it out works:

You can pick book(s) using the first letter in the title, the first letter in the author's first or last name, the first letter in the series name, or the first letter of a character's first, last, or nick-name. As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word. If your book starts with a number (e.g. 24 Bones) use the number to determine the first letter (in this example, it would be T)

Esther (nyctale) Good morning,

I am currently reading Postcards on the beach, the main character is named Morgan LeFevre.

So i could take M.

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Got it! Thanks, Esther!

message 43: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) I had a look at my library audiobook shelves as I have a few hours of yard stuff to do. They had The Lightning Thief available, so I grabbed it. Can be use as L or
R and is tagged middle grade.

message 44: by Diane ~Firefly~ (last edited Jul 12, 2014 05:52AM) (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2447 comments Esther - that is a fun series...

I recently picked up Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library by Chris Grabenstein that could cover the E or G.

FYI, if the book is on my To-Read shelf I own it (although I can't always claim to find it), but like Teresa I'm a big mood reader.

message 45: by Kim (new)

Kim ill reread lion witch and the wardrobe for L
ive been wanting to read anne of green gables forever, I can grab that book also

message 46: by Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (last edited Jul 12, 2014 07:29AM) (new)

Becky ♡The Bookworm♡ (mckennamuse) | 4205 comments Woohoo! Go Team! Updated our Team Post. Let me know if you see any errors.

We need "G" two "D's" and an "E," but it's still early and we have other team members that haven't checked in. If anyone runs into a problem, needs to switch out with someone, or can't find a book, just give Karsyn or myself a shout. We have "wiggle" room.

Remember to add ALL books you read to your challenge shelf in case we can squeeze out more points! Thanks!

message 47: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) WOW, you all kicked some serious butt this morning before I got outta bed!! WTG!!!

I guess I went to bed JUST a little too early. I didn't sleep anyways, so that sucks, I could have started thinking about my book.

Lemoncello's Library is GREAT!! I just finished up The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman last week if anyone else is looking for middle grade reads, it's enjoyable too.

There were a lot of updates everywhere since I went to bed, so I'm going to check in, get caught up, and be back in a while after I look over my books.

Great work all. :)

message 48: by Karsyn (last edited Jul 12, 2014 08:07AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Ok. From the looks of my books, I'm gonna start out with these two middle grade books ~

Graff, Lisa ~ A Tangle of Knots
Django Wexler ~ The Forbidden Library

message 49: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2447 comments One thing I wasn't clear on in the rules, does the genre read need to be a separate book from the ones used to spell out the genre?

message 50: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Diane ~Firefly~ wrote: "One thing I wasn't clear on in the rules, does the genre read need to be a separate book from the ones used to spell out the genre?"

Nope Diane, it can be the same book.

I'm asking for clarification right now, but I BELIEVE that we only need ONE person to read the genre to get the bonus points for that. I'm making sure, since we all started picking middle grade. So, it doesn't HAVE to be a genre read, only one of us has to read it. That should make choices easier. But I'll let you know when they say for sure.
