i love malazan but the only way i could see it is multiple large budget series at the same time converging in like season 3 of each.
Hmm, yes, it would be a bit tricky. I'm sure the screen writers would warp the story severely to maintain main characters. Ha ha!

Ha ha!"i would honestly sit there for 30 serries but am no sure your average tv viewer would, i think the first 3 black company books would be amazing and also if it doesnt do well, stop it there (i think this is already happening)
I really do love the Lord of the Rings but I feel that a tv show is going a bit far. Especially, if it's only going to follow the same story line we already know so well. They should just put the stick down and take a step away from the horse. I agree that there could be potential if they were to explore other stories from Middle Earth. However, I reserve judgement until I have seen it. There have been a lot of tv shows and movies I've groaned about and then ended up loving.
We already have a thread on this topic:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Basically it's not about LotR itself but it's either the time between the Hobbit and LotR, or maybe picking from events from before LotR.
Admittedly, they should give it another name if it's not the core trilogy being covered but I think perhaps people that have only seen the movies would recognize "Lord of the Rings" than say "Middle Earth" if they weren't playing close attention. And if it is between the Hobbit and LotR I guess it would make sense to keep the name. Guess we'll see :)

Well, like any famous work, LOTR is bound to have many adaptations. Heck, the Hobbit has had 3 versions, one in the 60s, another in the 70s and the recent Jackson trilogy. So I would be interested to see other actor portray the roles of characters I love and know so well. It opens the possibility of getting a new perspective on the original work. If they focus on the main book, fine. If they focus on the Silmarillion, even better! But I will draw the line at inventing a new story, like the Shadow of Mordor games tried to do. Stick to the original material (The Silmarillion alone could easily spark several TV series), or do nothing.

Let's have a rousing reprise of 'Frodo of the Nine Fingers'. :)

-are the previous versions flawed, missing elements from the source material or barely related to it?
-are the previous versions old enough to warrant a visual update?
If the answers are "yes" then a remake could be considered. In LoTR's case I think both answers are "no".
In any case I think LoTR has been done enough that I'd rather they try some other series, it's not like there's a shortage of material.

Questionable publications, citing dubious sources, are reporting rumors that Amazon's billion dollar prayer to the Valar might focus on Young Aragorn.
The Latest Rumors Say Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Will Follow the Adventures of a Young Aragorn
A cross between Young Sheldon and Gotham, I presume.

Amazon has picked a couple of writers for the series: ‘The Lord Of the Rings’: Writers JD Payne & Patrick McKay To Develop Amazon Series.
A check of IMDb shows neither has worked on anything, though they are both attached to upcoming "Godzilla vs. Kong" and "untitled Star Trek sequel" movies.

the main thing GoT has that fantasy series have not in the past is less emphasis on magic etc, surely there are other fantasy series like this, also i would love to see the black company on tv (i know there is a lot of magic but the grittiness could make up for this)
