What makes you give a book a five-star rating? What makes you give a one-star rating? Are you pretty generous when rating or hard-core? Discuss rating books here.

I'm average I feel? I've definitely gotten a lot harsher compared to when I first joined, but I'm not too hard-core. 5 stars are essentially books I loved more than anything else that made me freak out or just really get invested in the story. One stars are books that not only I disliked but that truly appalled me either due to poor writing quality or due to messed up topics.

I give five stars to books that I can overlook every little imperfection because it was just that amazing. I give one star to those rare books that I just can't find the point of the entire story.

I'm pretty generous while rating books, so I end up giving a lot of four stars out.

I try to be pretty generous, too. I try my best to rate fairly, but I feel bad if I can't even find one thing I like. ^.^;

I do too. Thankfully, that doesn't happen often for me! I can find something good in almost every book I read.

I basically go by what I call "The Goodreads Code", which what you get when you hover over each star in the rating system.

****-Really liked it
***-Liked it
**-It was okay
*-Did not like it

I very rarely give 1 stars to books, unless I completely couldn't stand it. I also don't give 5 stars out freely because I feel that those should be reserved for the "Best of the Best".

I wish I could stick to "The Best of The Best" code, but I just can't, lol. I'm too much of a softie, I guess. Either that or I'm not very picky when it comes to my books. I might be a mixture of both, lol.

I think I'm pretty generous. 5 stars means I really loved it, 4 stars mean I really liked it, 3 stars mean I liked it but had some issues, 2 stars mean I finished it but didn't like it too much, and the dreaded 1 star usually means I didn't finish it and really did not like it at all. I don't give many 2 or 1 star ratings though.

That's basically how I do mine. I almost never quit on books, though, unless I just couldn't get into it after a couple chapters or so. My thinking, if I spent so much time on it already, may as we'll finish it off. Lol.

That said, typically, if I can't "get into" books, that generally means I was distracted while reading or just not really giving it a chance. Either that or I just really so t like the premise or genre.

If I'm reading a good book but I'm still having trouble staying into it, I'll start something else on the side. I've only DNF a couple books. The furthest I went in one was about 2/3 of the way, but I was just too confused and didn't really like any of the characters so I flipped to the end to see how it ended.
