Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments 2018 is my Hundredweight challenge.

-Read 100 Books

-Decrease my 'Acquired-as-yet unread' AND my 'Want to read' shelf to under 100.

-Increase as many of my other shelves to over 100 as possible:

-Particularly increase 'Marine', 'Art', 'Science-fiction' and 'Travel' to 100 books.

-Review 100 books.

Some of my selves are over 100, like 'Fantasy' and 'Non-fiction' but a lot are not, and that is partly because I am often too lazy to sort the books I have read properly. So part of this challenge is book sorting, maybe some re-reading so that I can review them properly.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Thank ye' all. Keeping to to-read shelves down is going to be a struggle. But I am keen for it in general.

Carolyn | 9888 comments Good challenge Deborah. Good luck achieving your goals!

Kathryn | 3569 comments Sounds good, Deborah! Good luck with it! Your TBR shelf isn't too bad - 12 books is doable - just. I decreased my TBR shelf by 9 last year... However I read over 130 books - what does that tell you...???!

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments 12 books sounds fine... Until you realise that the lifeline book fair is on the 20th, just the day before my birthday. Who knows what might happen?

I’ve had to lock myself in the house the weekend so I don’t take a dozen empty suitcases down to South Bank to fill with a million more paperbacks :)

You should! You should do that I found some good books there. I am determined not to go back though, my 'acquired' shelf has now escalated to 161 books.

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments I see that you're TBR shelf is much better than mine, Deborah! =o)
Hope you had fun at the book fair!

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments If you take a peak at my TBR, Baz, you'll see you're doing okay in comparison! =o)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Another one for the 'Art' shelf!

Just finished Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland by Susan Vreeland

Beautifully written, with amazing historic detail and about art. Seemed to tick all the boxes and I did quite enjoy it.... But for goodness sake! Why tell me it is 'a novel' when it is a set of short stories? Three stars for deceiving the paying customer.

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Beach Babylon - I guess it is clear which shelf this one goes on :)

Also William And Mary, amazingly enough, fits onto both Art and Marine shelves, multitasking at its finest!

message 19: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments And, yay, my Fantasy sci-fi shelf has made it over the 100. That is my fifth shelf to make it over 100 books, the others are mostly generic, like 'fiction' or 'non fiction'.

message 20: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Another one for the 'marine' shelf Dyschronia by Jennifer Mills

Marine shelf might get pretty close to 100 at this rate; I'm on 82 now.

Brings my 'Marine and Oceanic' shelf up to 84! Yay!

Sadly I did not love it, but it was not terrible; 2*

message 26: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments So, it is December already! How did I go?

-Read 100 Books: YES I am sitting at 120, despite the horrors of moving, a bad job decision and general stress.

-Decrease my 'Acquired-as-yet unread' AND my 'Want to read' shelf to under 100:
HMMM Acquired is at 107, I have a month to work on that.
YES 'Want to read is at 97"

-Increase as many of my other shelves to over 100 as possible: Five of them are over. Equivocal success.

-Particularly increase 'Marine', 'Art', 'Science-fiction' and 'Travel' to 100 books. one out of three, Sci-FI made it over, Marine is trailing behind in the 90's and Travel is nowhere near.

-Review 100 books. YES! I reviewed over 100!

Pretty good, it was not a very focused challenge. I have learned that I need to define my goals more closely.

message 27: by Deb (new)

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 1929 comments Well; I have just reached one more goal.

Acquired, as yet unread shelf is on 100 books.

I have very mixed feelings about this result however. GR has been doing weird and wonky things with my shelves. Any book on any shelf comes up as 'read' on my app. Some come up with more than one mutually exclusive shelf at a time. Very disappointing, but I cannot be sure that this is a real win.
