75 Books...More or Less! discussion

Getting ready for another year. I'm shooting for 16 books, at least 8 physical. Since the goal for me is to clear out my backlog, I will be counting anything I DNF, though I don't count them towards the main yearly challenge. Let's make some room!

1. The Fifth Season Ok, so I've only had this one waiting for a couple of months and I did just buy the other two in the series immediately upon finishing, so I'm not sure how well this whole 'clear out my backlog' thing is going to go, LOL! Holy cow, though- this was great! It's been a couple of years since I read anything by Jemisin and she just keeps getting better. In fact, she's just become one of my few auto-buy authors. And for anyone who likes audiobooks Robin Miles, who narrates this series, is excellent.

2. How to Tell a Story and Other Essays Well this definitely counts as backlog. I've been meaning to get around to this for... oh, about nine years!

3. Bloodchild and other Stories

4. The Devil's Broker: Seeking Gold, God, and Glory in Fourteenth- Century Italy I've been carrying this around for several years, so this one feels good to cross off. Not only was it good, it takes a physical book off the shelf! Woot!

5. To the Heart of the Nile: Lady Florence Baker and the Exploration of Central Africa Another book that I've been hauling around for years that can now leave my physical shelves.

6. The Joy of Science I've had this one in my 'to read' list for ages, and at over 30 hours it would probably have stayed even longer if it hadn't been for this challenge and a readathon overlapping, LOL! Not gonna lie, I've been a bit intimidated by the thought of this one. I'm really glad I got around to it though, as I thoroughly enjoyed it- once I sped up the narration a little bit.

7. Empire of Gold : A History of the Byzantine Empire Another audiobook- this one's been sitting in my account since 2012.

8. Stones, Bones, And Ancient Cities I've had this one for several years. Once I finished it I even managed to painlessly find it a new home :)

9. The Music of Richard Wagner This is a DNF, I managed two and a half hours and have no compunctions about quitting- turns out I still hate opera. Still, this gets something out of my queue that's been sitting there for four years. Moving on!

10. The History Of World Literature This has been sitting around for three years.

11. Babylon I can't believe that I've carried this rambling incoherent mess around with me for so long. DNF. But at least it's a physical book cleared off the shelf!

12. The Hellbound Heart I've had this one for 9 years.

13. Cabal

14. The Medieval World I almost feel bad for counting this. I only had it sitting around for one year before I got around to it ;)
