Susan (quackingup) | 27 comments I just downloaded The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo onto my mp3. I don't know how well this will work as I am easily distracted when listening to audio books and have to rewind frequently.

Susan - a suggestion I give to my friends and family when they mention that they aren't sure about audiobooks is to listen to a short story collection.

Thank you for the advice. I will try that if I can't keep my attention on this story.

Shannon (libraryshann) | 15 comments I listened to Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders, which is a very unique audiobook with over 160 narrators! My favorites were Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally.

Susan (quackingup) | 27 comments Finished Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on audio today. The story was okay. Moves rather slowly. The 'hero' seems to spread himself liberally among the females and they don't seem to protest much. I didn't much care for that. The animal torture was also disturbing for me. The mystery part the story was good but I thought some things a little far fetched.
I am curious about the sequels but I don't think I am curious enough to actually read them.
As for the audio, the reader had a pleasant enough voice though his female characters were a bit comical and one of his characters sounded like a vampire.

I just grabbed this to listen to on my commute!

Danielle (librarian19) | 45 comments I loved Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore and Robin Sloan wrote Sourdough in 2017. The audio book did not disappoint! I highly recommend both of these.

Susan (quackingup) | 27 comments Just finished Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything on audio. Had some food for thought but over-all was rather boring.
I searched Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore in the overdrive catalog but didn't find it. So I reserved it in hardcover. I am looking forward to the read. I love both Robin Sloan's titles and want to read Sourdough also. I am a lover of both books (and by extension bookstores) and sourdough bread which I bake 2-3 times a month.
On Sourdough, one of the participants in the last years year end meeting recommended reading cookbooks. I am reading Classic Sourdoughs, Revised: A Home Baker's Handbook.
I have now downloaded Ready Player One as my next audio book.
Lincoln in the Bardo Looks fun too. I will have to check it out.

Susan (quackingup) | 27 comments Finished listening to Lincoln in the Bardo. What interesting concept as an audio book. I don't know as I would have stuck with it long enough to sort it all out as a print book but somewhere in the middle it finally started to make sense as an audio book. I am glad I stuck with it. The end was poignant and thought provoking.

Susan, I feel the same way! The audio production was vast, entertaining, and overall kept me listening to a story that I wouldn't have otherwise finished due to the size of the cast. The different narrators surely helped, too.

Danielle (librarian19) | 45 comments I actually needed to check out the book at one point because I didn't understand some of the terminology that they were using for the quotes and things. Interesting audio though.
