Hello, I’m Karolina, a 21-year-old girl (22 in two months) from Poland.

A university student. My field is Eastern European studies, which roughly can be described as a political-social taking into account the whole region from Central Europe and Balkans through Russia to Caucasus and Central Asia. Nevertheless I focus on Russia and Ukraine. My plan is to finish 5 years of it (so get MA) + two-year post-graduate studies + a year of post-graduate studies of international law as my goal is to get a job in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Eastern Department, or analytical non-governmental organisation if plan A doesn’t work.
That would be enough of “ranting” about my future (I hope I made anyone interested just a little).

I speak Polish, English and French, I’m learning Russian and Ukrainian (surprise!).

I’m interested in history, politics, law, languages, books, poetry, drama & psychological movies, art, theatre, museums, ballet, haute couture, photography.

I love tea. I drink coffee too when I'm sleepy, but it's mostly when I'm out, rarely at home.

What about BOOKS - It's horribly difficult to find a bookish mate as I mostly read non-fiction and Russian classics. Most of my bookshelves include books about Eastern European region (and some others too, you can check them out on my profile), but that's probably obvious. I used to read much of YA when I was younger, but that's over, it just doesn't entertain me anymore (though I probably still have sentiments for a few titles somewhere deeply inside).

I watch tv shows like The 100, The Crown and Victoria (I also tried Downtown Abbey, I guess I like historical shows…) I used to watch Suits and House of Cards, but stopped somewhere in the middle.

I listen to many random artists and songs (including soundtracks), probably don’t have a favourite, but let’s say I really like Arctic Monkeys.

I’m honestly not even sure how I found this group or what a pen pal entails, other than just discussing books. But… I’ve been trying to get into Goodreads groups, so here we go.
My name is Jonathon and I am a completely blind backpacker for the last five years or so. I’ve been travelling across the world, mostly north and south America and Europe, doing advocacy projects and generally getting myself into ridiculous situations. Naturally I love travelling, meeting new people, discovering new cultures, meeting people from different cultures whilst drinking heavily, the usual backpacker things. I also read quite extensively. I love grimdark fantasy, hard sci-fi, some cyberpunk, historical fiction, recent scientific publications... A bit of everything really. I’m a little more critical of certain genres, but I’ve given most things a try at least once or twice. Also, philosophy is always good. Would love to discuss it with anyone. Presently working my way through A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, which is arguably the first piece of feminist literature ever written.

Finally, Bernard Cornwell is my favourite historical fiction author. I adore the Saxon stories, and I am leaving Italy for Scotland in two days. From there I intend to go visit Bebbanburg and the holy Island. I fully intend to stand upon the walls of the fortress and wave a sword. This is my goal for the next two weeks.
