Thank you, Lena! My story is a Welsh retelling of Snow White. I got the title from a Welsh proverb "A seed hidden in the heart of an apple is an orchard invisible".
A mini-scene I just typed out: The night was dark and still.
In the glow of a lamp or two, a green dress shimmered. As it moved away, the light revealed several faces. One was an old face, not of Cymru descent but of a far East tribe. Two others were markedly similar to hers, but they were framed by curly hair and round eyes of the Cymru race. The rest were bearded men’s faces. All - except for one - bore a frightened expression.
Ceinwen stood at the head of the table.
“The first person that refuses to cooperate with me will have THIS,” she held out a long kitchen knife “into their cowardly throat.”
The faces grew paler.
I'm going to put all my blog posts that are related to SOI here, for easy reference. These range from posts about characters to story snippets, so help yourself! They'll be from most recent to oldest. To erase confusion, this WIP used to be called The Apple in the Snow. https://catherinesrebellingmuse.blogs...

It is getting pretty close *pulls collar away from neck* is it getting hot in here?I think the deadline for turning in your submissions is already past. *fans self* and now the deadline for turning in the manuscript is almost upon me.
It is getting a little warm *wipes forehead*. I think you're right, I think only manuscripts can be accepted now. Hehee, mine's wayyyyy too messy right now.
I AM IN LOVE WITH THAT SNIPPET, CATHERINE!! This story sounds amazing - you know how I feel about fairy tale retellings! Good luck with your writing! <3

OKAY I NEED HELP.....I'm doing the Comp Title Challenge, and I have no idea what this story is even close to (besides, Snow White....but that's obvious....).
So what I need is suggestions for books that are close to this story idea. Similar books or themes, if you will.

Hmm... I don't know. I mean does it have to be just books for the comp titles? Because you could do Snow White and the Huntsman. The only other thing I thought of was Tales of Goldstone Woods by Anne Elisabeth Stangle because it seems like a highly complex fantasy world like hers...
Catherine wrote: "though I am breaking the rules anyway, so I'll look into those suggestions. Thanks Nicki!!!!"Snow White and the Huntsman was the main inspiration for my story for the Rooglewood Press contest. So basically any darker Snow White Retellings makes me think of it :P
Wow, haven't been here in a while either....As I mentioned in other threads, I worked on developing all 8 of my open WIPs during July Camp NaNo. During that time, I kept a log on my blog (how poetic, Catherine....).
So on July 7, I worked on SOI for a few hours, and here is the log for that day, in case anyone is interested: https://catherinesrebellingmuse.blogs...
Also, I did nail down a comp title for this WIP:
Snow White (Brothers Grimm) meets The Mabinogion (Anonymous) meets Here Be Dragons (Sharon Kay Penman)
So both the latter titles are very Welsh-oriented. The first one, The Mabinogion is a collection of Welsh legends and fairy tales. I used this work heavily when trying to give that Welsh culture. Here Be Dragons is a book that I haven't read, but I probably should consult one of these days. From what I can glean from the description on Goodreads, it is set during one of the great periods of Welsh uprising...and deals with a famous historical marriage between an illegitimate princess and a king. Both elements are also strong in this work, and from what I can gather from reviews, even the prose might be a similar writing style to mine....
