Cindy This has probably been asked a million times over but I had to ask. After reading "A Fine Balance" By Rohinton Mistry, which I found at a goodwill and thought it might be good, it was too wonderful to put into words. I have wondered if there are other books so powerful and amazing that usually are never talked about or heard much of. Anyone have a book so underrated but so amazing or a book that you didn't expect much of but it became an all-time favorite?
A Fine Balance

Gwendolyn Cayad I'm not sure if "Cutting for Stone" by A. Verghese or "The Far Pavilions" by M.M. Kaye are underrated but they gave me the same feelings I experienced when I read A Fine Balance.

Raquel Cindy - A Fine Balance is definitely one of my favorite books, and I believe we have the same feelings about this story. I read it over 10 years ago, but it remains freshly in my heart and mind, as it also does on my bookshelf for the day I will re-read it. There is only one other book that I feel similarly about. It is called The Joys of Motherhood by Buchi Emecheta; please do not let the title turn you away from it (I was not a mother the first time I read it). If you do read it, let me know how you felt about it.

Thank you! I will definitely check these out this coming year. " The Far Pavilions" sounds amazing though.

I'm glad you also loved it. I fell in love with the characters and didn't want to let them go. They felt like actual family because they were so well written and well developed. The circumstances they found themselves in were so heartbreaking and painful to read that I cried like I had never done for a book before or since. I'm for sure reading "The Joys of Motherhood" as soon as I can get my hands on it and let you know how it goes. Thank you for the recommendation!
