2018 Serious About Series Challenge

I already got a few queued up. Some LN's, Manga, and books that don't come out until next year like Yokai Girls, Vol. 1, Monster Girl. And I still have to start Log Horizon, and The Case Study of Vanitas among other books. Right now I'm reading Wild Waste which is pretty interesting.
2018 Serious About Series ChallengeI would definitely enjoy playing along! My manga collection is due for a reread, and I may throw in a few of the other titles that seem to fit the group's tastes. I frequently dip into the fantasy, sci-fantasy, steampunk, and paranormal sections of the library. ::twinkle::
Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto
I've watched the anime (some story arcs more than once) and dabbled in the fandom, but I'd never read the original manga. So I've begun collecting this looong series about Konoha's number one knucklehead ninja. It may take a while, but I'll get through. Believe it! [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 19 points
From Far Away by Kyoko Hikawa - FINISHED!
A girl finds herself in a strange world (classic portal fantasy) and must rely on a handsome young warrior. [Bonuses: +5 for completing the whole series in 2018, +5 for a series with more than ten volumes.] - 26 points
Yurara by Chika Shiomi - FINISHED!
A girl who can see ghosts begins to transform into her (taller, bolder, beautiful) guardian spirit, which becomes a problem. Because when Yurara is herself, she likes one boy, but when she's transformed, she's attracted to another. [Bonuses: +5 for completing the whole series in 2018.] - 12 points
Rasetsu by Chika Shiomi - FINISHED!
A sequel/spin-off in which Yako (one of the boys from Yurara) becomes involved with an agency that specializes in exorcisms. A young woman working there resembles his first love. [Bonuses: +5 for completing the whole series in 2018.] - 16 points
Demon Diary by Kara - FINISHED!
Set in a fantasy world of demons, clerics, and gods, we're introduced to the brand new demon lord Raenef (who utterly fails at being evil) and his tutor Eclipse (who despairs of ever properly training in his liege). [Bonuses: +5 for completing the whole series in 2018.] - 14 points
Trinity Blood by Kiyo Kyujyo - FINISHED!
An old favorite manga series involving priests, nuns, and vampires. I recently acquired some missing volumes for my collection, so I'm eager to reread from the start. [Bonuses: +5 for completing the whole series in 2018 (only 12 volumes are available here in the US), +5 for a series with more than ten volumes.] - 24 points
Honey So Sweet by Amu Meguro - FINISHED!
A new-to-me high school romance. More summary once I actually get a feel for the series, which looks adorable. [Bonuses: +5 for completing the whole series in 2018.] - 15 points
Crescent Moon by Haruko Iida
Whenever she's in the water, Mahiru can hear a song and see things (because she's a descendant of a princess). She's found by a group who needs her help, and they're a strange bunch, including a vampire, a werewolf, a tengu, and a kitsune. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 0 points
La Corda d'Oro by Yuki Kure
A girl with no formal musical training receives a magical violin from a fairy and finds herself entered into their school's music competition. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 9 points
InuYasha by Rumiko Takahashi
Kagome is pulled through a well into the past, where she meets a dog-eared boy. He's only interested in gaining power ... until the source of said power shatters. Inuyasha is stuck helping Kagome collect the shards. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 0 points
Bleach by Tite Kubo
Ichigo gets mixed up with supernatural goings-on and becomes a shinigami. I have the first thirty-some volumes of this on my shelf. I'll reread from the beginning, then begin picking up the rest of the series, straight to the finish. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 0 points
ONGOING
These series are relatively new, still releasing in English language editions, which I'm collecting. (Yay, pre-order!)
Barakamon by Satsuki Yoshino
A quirky, scenic story about a struggling artist who moves into the middle of nowhere (a village on a small island off the coast of Japan) in order to find inspiration for his work. Culture shock and comedy. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 2 points
PRE-ORDER: Volume 15 releases March 13, 2018
The Ancient Magus's Bride by Kore Yamazaki
A lavishly beautiful story about a girl who's born with unusual powers... and the inhuman mage who buys her so she can become his apprentice (and bride). Rereading from the beginning because a new volume released. [Adding covers as I finish them.] - 7 points
PRE-ORDER: Volume 9 releases TBA
Behind the Scenes!! by Bisco Hatori
The new, ongoing series from the mangaka most famous for Ouran High School Host Club. Ranmaru is a gifted young man who doesn't fit in with his rugged, hardworking family ... but finds his niche at college with a club known as the Art Squad. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 0 points
PRE-ORDER: Volume 6 releases TBA
The Girl from the Other Side by Nagabe
A rather inky, atmospheric story about a little girl who is somehow lost (or perhaps abandoned) in a place called the Other Side, away from humans, in danger of a curse. She's cared for my a mysterious (and very polite) demon. [Adding covers as I finish reading each volume.] - 4 points
PRE-ORDER: Volume 5 releases TBA
Goal: 400 points
Total: 159 points
Glad to have you on board Forthright!

I just joined the group. I just finished rereading the first book of a series but it is science fiction. Can I play along or does it have to be a group themed genre only? I am also planning on reading arrows of the queen for the fourth or fifth time. Those are the only series I have planed to read so far. Thank you.
Welcome to the group Jennifer. You can add any book to this challenge as long as it is part of a series and you read it this year.
👍 thank you very much. I would also like to join. I can reasonably assume with two series I plan on reading, Ishould make it to 22 points. If I finish my list for 2018 I may add another series.

Fantasy, Urban Fantasy and Manga all tend to be trilogies or long series containing several books or volumes. So I challenge you to read as many books in a series (or trilogy) as you can in the year of 2018.
Scoring for this challenge will be passed on a point system as follows:
2 points for the first book in a series
2 points for the last book in a series (or the most recently published if the series is still ongoing)
1 point for each book in the series that is not the first or last
**Bonus Points**
5 points if you read the entire series from start to finish in the year of 2018
5 points for reading a series that is more than ten volumes long
To join in the challenge, post below that you would like to join and a goal of how many points you would like to achieve. ( you can set a low goal and then change it later if you beat that goal). Then post your progress as you go.
Levels:
1: 1 - 20 Points
2: 21 - 40 Points
3: 41 - 60 Points
4: 61 - 80 Points
5: 81 - 100 Points
I will be participating in this challenge with a Level 3 goal.
