Over it by 3. I'm seeking my next opportunity, as they say, and December is not a big month for interviews and hires so - whenever I get anxious about it, I read instead. It's been a successful strategy so far :) Plus, books.

My favorite reads this month were Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie and Family by J. California Cooper, a novel I've had on my shelf and TBR for years.

That seems like a healthy way to deal with anxiety to me lol. I've heard good things about J. California Cooper but haven't read anything yet.

My general goal per month has been about 3 books. I think though with reading something like War and Peace I should probably have reevaluated that haha. I'm enjoying it but it doesn't leave room for a lot of other books.

I have difficulty making it through very long books even when I enjoy them because it feels as though I'm only reading a single book for 3 months. Because I am. Kudos to you. I need to try War and Peace again in a better translation than the one I ditched in undergrad. Although Tolstoy's a little too rah-rah about the upper classes to be a great fit for me. I think.

"How Much Land Does a Man Need?" (linked below) and readers' comments here impacted my view of Tolstoy. I don't really recall much of War and Peace or Anna K, both of which I DNFd somewhere between 125 and 200 pages in.

I can see your point after reading that story.

They are very long and filled with lots of philosophy and musings haha. That's my favorite part but it doesn't appeal to some people I think.

Thanks for prodding me past my comfortable assumptions. I'm also a big fan of meandering philosophy and musings, at least from dead Russians, and you've sold me on revisiting Tolstoy.
