Check out these recent books that take a closer look at two of the most influential books of the twentieth century.


The Most Dangerous Book: The Battle for James Joyce's Ulysses tells the remarkable story surrounding Ulysses, from Joyce’s inspiration in 1904, to its landmark federal obscenity trial in 1933. Whether you are a fan of Joyce's masterwork or not, the story of the battle against censorship makes for a compelling read.


The Mockingbird Next Door: Life with Harper Lee is less the story of Harper Lee's famous novel than it is a portrait of the author, herself. The author, Marja Mills, spent a year and a half living next to Lee and her sister. Invited into their inner circle, Mills explores not only Lee's life, but her corner of the South, how it shaped her only novel and how that novel shaped the rest of her life.
