I can only record four this month and three of those were audiobooks. We've had two more sets of visitors following on from the Aussies, taking up a total of about ten days. Then most of my reading has been at the beta stage. One is now published, which is Jennifer Joy's listed below. Another comes out this month, one is complete but is still in final editing, the final one is still ongoing. Busy times! My Someone Else Pick for April Dreams and Expectations by Wendi Sotis is at 73% on my Kindle, so that should be finished soon.

I did indeed. It's narrated by Elizabeth Klett, who's one of my favourite narrators when it comes to Austenesque fiction. I know Abigail doesn't write outside of P&P, but it'd be fascinating to read a variation of Persuasion (and all of Jane's novels, in fact) set in the same universe.

Thanks Jeanne! I'd love to have more time to read, but as I still work part-time, it kind of restricts it a bit. One thing I promised myself at the beginning of the year was that I'd read EVERY day, even if only for a short time, so I have my current published work loaded on my Kindle and the Kindle apps on my phone and iPad. That means there's never a lack of reading matter, even if I'm waiting in the car for hubby when he's running errands or visiting the DIY store. If I have my phone with me, I've always got a book to hand!

June was very much a curate's egg of a month for me. Some brilliant stuff and some were.... somewhat less than that. I hated having to give only three stars to two first time authors, but that's how I saw their debut works, I'm afraid. A bonus is that one of them fulfilled a gap in each of my alphabet challenges.

July looks like being a busy month for me beta-wise, a couple of which have overflowed from June. Both are amazing, by the way! I've got two more coming up in the next couple of weeks, so I have to get my head down. Then I want to read London Holiday by Nicole Clarkston and my Dusty Shelf Book A Most Civil Proposal by C.P. Odom. I'm almost finished listening to the audiobook of All Hallow's Eve by Wendi Sotis, which I've enjoyed a lot. Not sure what'll be up next on the listening front but I've got plenty to choose from.

If you're not a fan of fantasy, paranormal or alterntive universe variations, then this isn't for you, but I loved it. The relatively humble Bennet family, when in "normal" English society, turn out to be of extremely high status in this "tribal" society which runs parallel to it. Elizabeth is even the High Priestess! Guess who turns out to be her Soul Mate?

A really fun Regency P&P take on the film Roman Holiday. Lady C. is even more loathsome than normal!

How Elizabeth became Friend to April and a member of the Blue Order. The addition of dragons is always a plus!

I cried at this in a couple of places. Doesn't happen often when I'm reading (or in this case listening). If you don't like either Elizabeth or Darcy married before, then this is another one not for you. A large part of the book is taken up by Elizabeth's first marriage, but it's so well done.

This was a gift from a dear friend I had lunch with recently. It's a lovely little hardback, illustrated book that's a potted biography of Jane Austen. Very well done and the illustrations are charming. Only takes about five minutes to read but well worth it. Even better, my friend bought it at the shop at Jane Austen's House Museum in Chawton.

70. A Most Civil Proposal by C.P. Odom ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Dusty Shelf Book for July. Imagine if, instead of the DHP, Darcy was considerably more civil in his proposal. Elizabeth still turns him down as she doesn't love him and there's still the issue of Jane and Bingley separation and also the perceived insult to Wickham to resolve. Add in the threat of a scandal and a particularly obstinate and unsympathetic Mr. Bennet and our favourite couple still have lots of obstacles to overcome.

71. If I Loved You Less by Gina Welborn ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The first of the Austen in Austin tales, which for some reason I acquired as individual titles, rather than the two box sets. All are set in and around 1880s Austin, Texas. This one, as you may guess from the title, is based upon Emma.

72. The Subsequent Proposal: A Tale of Pride, Prejudice & Persuasion by Joana Starnes 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 audiobook narrated by Stevie Zimmerman.
This mashup of P&P and Persuasion is one I really enjoyed when I first read it not long after publication. The audio version is even better, with Stevie Zimmerman's wonderful performance. Darcy engaged to Anne Elliot, Elizabeth being courted by Captain Wentworth! I have to confess to having images of Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle, Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root in my mind the whole time. I'd especially love to have seen Colin Firth's Darcy facing off against Ciaran Hinds' Wentworth during their confrontations.

73. Romantic Refinements by Anita Mae Draper⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The second of the Austen in Austen stories, this time based upon Marianne's tale from S&S.

A really good month for me - all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ or 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Doesn't get much better than that. Plans for August? I'm in the midle of a beta right now and I know I've got another one coming as soon as the author has finished her final edits. I understand it's a substantial work, so I may be spending some time on it. As it could be landing in my Inbox any day now, I'm not wanting to start reading anything long that I'll have to break off from, hence why I'm working my way through the Austen in Austin works. My Someone Pick it For Me book Tree of Life: Charlotte & the Colonel by Ginger Monette will have to go on hold until afterwards, but I will read it eventually, even if it's September.

I've picked this one, and its sequels, as my Dusty Shelf Challenge for September. I've read it before, just after publication, but only recalled a few key plot points as I read. Loved Richard's brother Alex as an original character. It could have done with a line editor as there were a number of typos, inappropriate, and also missing apostrophes. The word "moniker", which I hate at the best of times, was also used at least twice and even the Kindle dictionary tells us it's not a Regency word.

Plans for September? Apart from finishing the Leaving Bennet Behind series, I'll see what I can do to fill in the remaining gaps in my alphabet challenges and maybe some more Austen in Austin.
