Zac paced back and forth across the line of new initiates, five total, and only one with a look of real promise. The so called prodigies he would have to work with. They were getting him more and more deeply involved and he didn't like it. "Welcome," he said dryly. "We will train mostly out here. Yes it's dry, yes it's hot, and yes I don't care. You will listen and I will command. That's how it works. Now lets go have fun." He tossed them each an air soft gun for practice
Ivy didn't like his last comment. Fun? This was life and death to her. Act too poorly one way, mom dies. Too poorly another? Dad. Too poorly? Goodbye, brother. She had a scowl on her face normally but when he said that, it deepened. She gripped the air-soft gun tightly. She was going to shoot the heck out of everyone. It wouldn't hurt them and she'd only show the Keepers watching she could do this. Plus, it let off angry steam. And she was boiling.
"Alright, the rules are: there are none. Foul play, backstabbing and physical contact is aloud, except for one kind. If I find out that anyone was sexually assaulted the contributor is out of the squad with their personal 'Consequences'. Make teams if you wish. And until the ammo is gone, go and try not to get shot," he said sternly. They told him to be ruff and not be personal. But that was boring, he was going to jump in this 'game' and try and give each person some pointers. He shot his gun in the air and yelled, "GO!" Everyone split for the make shift cover
Ivy crouched behind her little make shift cover. It wasn't the best of the pickings but it was something. Using her watch for a reflection, she looked around her barrier where she would've been shot if she'd stuck her head out. She shot occasionally but was trying to save ammo. Maybe she could win this thing if she was the last with ammo. Then everyone would be helpless.
Zac watch for a while as they shot back and forth. He couldn't believe he was teaching kids to shoot at each other. Two of the kids were running around like chickens without heads and were getting shot at. They just shot at everything like maniacs. "Pull your selves together!" He yelled
Ivy rolled her eyes at the other kids. She kind of hoped they wouldn't pull it together. It'd just make her look even better. She found a kid cowering behind his barrier and shot him three times.
As Zac watched further studying the kids he smacked his face ((facepalm!)). He thought that now would be the time to go get involved. As he did, occasionally he would shoot at the others as an example the one he was advising. He finally got to one of the actual prodigies. He asked the girl, "What's your strategy so far?" He saw she had actually been using that thing that these kids supposedly had, though he shrugged as a lot of the Elites who made it through training had started out chicken
Ivy pointed her gun at him. Just because he was their trainer didn't mean she was above shooting him. He could be trying to get her too. "How do I know you won't just shoot me," she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"What would I get for shooting you?" He raised an eyebrow and asked her pointedly. He looked into her eyes, he could tell this trainy was serious, so he asked,"What's your name?" He holstered his air soft gun and tried a more open tone in his voice, this girl seemed to have a lot of tension pulling at her
"Maybe you think proving your skills against me would force me to respect you," she said simply but lowered her gun. "Ivy..." she replied to his question hesitantly. Someone tried to shoot at them but only hit the barrier. Ivy turned and shot once, hitting the kid in the head, not caring if he cried out in pain.
"Nice shot," he said. He was impressed. "Well it's nice ta meet ya V," he smiled mischievously, he was gonna caller her that from now on even if she didn't like it. To him it was V for Victory cause that's what he saw in her. After that, a second later, he shot at her foot and hopped the barrier running across and sliding underneath another one across from her on the other side of the little valley. He knew she would understand the act of 'war' he just called.
V? She raised her one eyebrow at him then gritted her teeth as he shot her foot. She resisted the urge to just shoot maniacally and pretend to kill him. She had to stick with her strategy. She could still get back at him. So he bid her time, saving ammo and only shooting when she had a clear shot. Ivy tried a couple times to hit him but she didn't know if she ever actually got him.
She had only hit him once. It had only been a graze to the leg. He saw that she was a little careless with those shots as she could've shot him like that kid. He also noticed how she had only shot about a total of seven times. He mentally recorded that, she was going to be the only one left with ammo in a few minutes. The others were shooting out. And when they did he smirked, stood up on his jeep and announced, "The ammo's gone! Out of your hiding spots!" He could just sense what was about to happen
If Ivy had done her math correctly, she could shoot everyone three times with the ammo she had. When he said those words though...something was up. She could feel something. But she stood halfway up anyways, most of her body still covered by the barrier and shot everyone 3 times. When her gun pointed at the trainer finally, she didn't hesitate to administer the 3 shots.
When he saw her poke up he rolled off the jeep to the nearest barrier, running quietly to the next and next, hiding. He glanced back at the other kids. They were stone stock and confused some on the ground in pain. But they stayed, which was good. That's what he wanted. He peered around to Ivy seeing she was just done shooting he rolled again closer to her, tossed her one last loaded air soft gun, then hid behind a differed barrier.
Why is he helping me?? Ivy thought. She couldn't figure this guy out. She took the gun, a little warily. So now she had a gun full of ammo and everyone else was empty? She quickly calculated how much each person would get: 5 shots each. And so she went around, peeking around her barrier and shooting in successions of 5. But then she went to give Zac his 5, and peered around her barrier for him.
Before she could finish her shots on some of the kids, so she wouldn't be almost out of ammo. He shot at her arms around the barrier three times. She had a new enemy now, someone else with a loaded gun against her. "Watch out who you're shooting V!" pitching some advice at her. Rolling behind a new barrier he said, "Always keep in check who the 'real' threat is!" He had been trying to imply two things: who in this 'game' was her real enemy and who in reality was against her and him as well many others. He new from experience they only forced the actually good ones to be in this program
All three shots hit her arm and she said a very naughty word, one most kids her age wouldn't be saying. She crouched lower beneath the barrier and hid for the moment, listening to his words. The real threat? She knew the obvious one, he was the only one who could stand a chance against her in this game. But he said it in a tone that implied something bigger than just the game. Did he mean the Empire was the enemy to him as well? "It's Ivy!" she yelled back, not talking about his latter comment yet. She rapidly rolled to another barrier, shooting twice at him then crouching behind the barrier.
He could tell her new nickname was on her nerves. Maybe one day he'll not call her that, but today was not that day. The shots hit his arm and grazed his neck as he turned his head, he winced. Now this was going to be fun. Maybe it would even teach the other kids a lesson. They kept shooting back and forth as they snuck around different barriers he hit her twice in the leg and once in the chest.
Ivy was getting a little frustrated. She kept getting hit and she wasn't hitting him. She knew she couldn't beat him, he was the trainer. But nonetheless, she wanted to win. She had 4 shots left and she was going to make them count. She ran to a barrier closer to his and crouched. Then, in one last attempt, she ran low to the ground and slid on her side, shooting all four shots at him.
As her shots fired they hit his chest and shoulder and he shot his last few back at her. If she were to use such a move in real life and were to miss or only hit one of many she would be done for. Now that they were completely out he smiled, but it faded quickly as he said, "That was a risky move, even if you had hit a killing shot I could have not been alone. Always be cautious, " he advised. He stood out from his crouched position and offered her a hand.
She scowled a little and was annoyed that it made sense. He was right. The shots he fired back at her ha hit her in the stomach and they stung a little but it didn't matter. Hesitating for a moment, she took his hand and stood up.
As we walked in front of here he said, "Lighten up. There's no real danger here," turning his rad slightly to look at her as he said it, he had implied another message. If she was the the kind of girl he thought she was then she would come and talk to him after he dismissed everyone. She would probably do that anyway. But if she wasn't these comments would mean almost nothing.
Ivy didn't say anything but she knew she'd have to talk to him later. There was something in his eyes that implied another meaning to his words. She nodded though, and was prepared for anything that came next.
Zac then approached the other trainees and stood up on the jeep again. "Alright. Now that we are actually done, we will go to The base at the edge of the wastelands by the city. There I will show you your rooms and go over further training. Everyone in the jeep!" He hoped in the driver seat as everyone pilled in and started the car. Then he sped off in silence towards their new home
((Are we changing threads?))Ivy sat there in the jeep as it drove, not caring if the wind whipped her hair around. Initiation was not going as she had imagined it to. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
((nah...there's no where else to go))They arrived at base and he led them down hallways in two lines. He got to a big room with bunk beds all over. In one corner was a pile of all their luggage. "This will your room. Choose a bed and get comfortable. If you ever need me when we aren't training my room is down the hall to the left towards the bathrooms, there will be boy and girl bathrooms. Any questions?"
((k))Everyone remained silent. Ivy didn't move to a bunk immediately, just memorized where he said he could be found. She finally picked a bunk in the corner, and didn't sit down. She looked through her new stuff and after about 15 minutes, walked out and found the bathrooms, then his room. She knocked twice.
((I will have to be ghosting from now on about every 45 minutes))Zac had just changed into a clean more uniform look when he had open the door. He had seen this coming and hoped for it. "You need somethin' V?"
She gave him a 'really?' look. "You weren't expecting me?" she said it in a non-believing tone. "I think we both need something. And you know it too. You only dropped me about 30 hints."
He laughed, "Ya, ya I know. I was jut kiddin. It would be best if we went somewhere quiet. We don't want anyone overhearing this. Come inside?" He whispered the last half so no one would hear. If they were caught there would be many reason for them to be in big trouble.
Ivy smirked a little and walked in. She looked around and waited for him to start off the rest of the conversation. He knew more than she.
As he closed the door he stared at her. "They are blackmailing you aren't they?" There was no turning back on his words now, if he was wrong she would probably turn him in or something. No one's supposed to know
Ivy eyed him warily for a moment then she softened some. If he was asking her, he knew about the Empire's bad ways. Even if she said yes, it wouldn't matter because the Empire had its hold on her. There'd be no reason to turn her in for something. She could trust him....for now. "Yes," Ivy said. "How'd you figure?"
"I am too," he said. "I could just tell, most people that are really good are blackmailed. I mean come on, I have other things I would rather be doing, right?" he tried joking to lighten the mood, Zac didn't want her upset or to not trust him, but maybe it was best to be serious and not joke. "Seriously though, I'm smart enough to know what I want and know who the bad guys are."((Btw, if there is anything you want to do in RP like a specific topic or something or any ideas just share. And if you don't like my character calling yours V just say so. I don't any hard feelings. I was just wondering.))
((Oh, I'm having a TON of fun, really. This is one of my favorite RPs right now actually :) And I like him calling her V, it fits his personality and it'll help Ivy become not so stern around him))She smiled a little then asked softly, "What are they blackmailing you with?" She wondered if this was happening to scores of other kids. Or maybe she and Zac were just an anomaly.
"My family," he said coldy, he looked away at the wall, something else maybe in his mind. "This is actually a fairly common thing. I know quite a few kids of all ages being forced into the Keepers. But not everyone, so always be cautious who you talk to about this." ((I had been thinking if soon after some more training or whatevers we jump a few years or so, I donno I haven't thought to much about it.))
"Same," she said softly, though with more emotion than she wanted to make it through. "I won't talk about it with anyone else. It's not like we can do anything anyways," Ivy sighed. Her knee still ached ever so slightly from the tiny tracker they inserted. If she tried to take it out, it'd be immensely painful and she wouldn't be able to walk again.
"I have been trying to figure out a way to save my family and escape," with little emotion he continued, "but I haven't figured anything out." Sighing he walked over to his bed and sat down with his head in his hands. "I can't just sit idly by watching people suffer and making them. I have to find a way to do something good even though I'm here."((Sweet. Btw in Zac's history 16 is the age he starts his little secret band that helps the Condemned escape.))
"Where's your family?" she asked softly, sitting down in a desk chair near his bed. It sounded like they were thrown in the Pound, but she wasn't for sure. But she agreed. She wanted to help. There was only the tracker to worry about.((Maybe whenever Zac gets caught, Ivy is caught as well but they keep her in the system. Then she returns to her old, hard ways))
"I don't know," he said into his hands. "They are somewhere they shouldn't be. After I tried resigning and getting a different job they went missing." He kept thinking of things to do to get out of here and find his family again. Zac was soon being transferred to a Pound patrol after training this group, he either had to think of something to do to help the people around him, he wanted to some how oppose the Empire.((Ya, Zac gets caught at 24, so in 8 years. Ya and because they get so close that losing him at that time is enough punishment for her.))
"Well, what are you going to do?" she asked quietly. There wasn't hope for her. The Empire had her family personally. Plus, they'd know where she was due to the tracker, there'd be no breaking her family out. "I'll help you. I-I can help you."
He thought of her words for a second. He didn't know how anyone could and with what. "After another year with your group they are transferring me. I have an idea. " he smiled
