Yellow, Melanie's favourite color, is what sets her room apart from her brother's. Of course, the walls remain white, as they have to, but the room is adorned with yellow curtains (which remain shut due to the reminder of where she is), yellow décor, and vase after vase full of sunflowers, Melanie's favourite flower. She spends a lot of time in her room, though her bed remains in excellent condition, because she spends most nights in her brother's room.
