5. It's an engaging story and I do recommend (I actually gave it four stars) but the romance was a miss for me:

What a fun year it has been!!
1. I read 80 books this year!2. 9 were rereads this year. The entire Harry Potter series, Jurassic Park and Cascade
3. Historical Fiction wins again with 45 books
4. The Redeeming
5. An Uncommon Courtship I've loved all the previous books in this series but I still haven't managed to force myself to finished this one. I'm heavily considering just skipping it to get to Griffith's story.
6. Distorted
7. Once Upon a Prince Generally I'm a historical girl and contemporary isn't on my radar but I really enjoyed this one and it had me branching out into more contemporary reads that I've loved.
8. Submerged I'm still kicking myself for waiting so long to start this amazing series!
9. Definitely Dani Pettrey's Alaskan Courage series though Tamara Leigh's Age of Faith series is a VERY close second.
10. Dani Pettrey and Tamara Leigh are tied for this one. They both write such amazing stories.
11. Legal drama is a genre I've never explored before but I really enjoyed Deadly Proof
12. The Final Empire A new to me fantasy author that I really enjoyed
13. Any of the Harry Potter series. They're just great stories!

15. Definitely Alan Grant from Jurassic Park. though I grew up watching the Jurassic Park movies on a pretty regular basis so he's sort of ingrained in me.

The Magnolia Duchess by Beth White - loved the first two in the series, but this one fell flat.
New Jersey's Colonial Architecture Told in 100 Buildings - too many mistakes!
Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker by Gregory Maguire - thought it would be a fun retelling of the Nutcracker, but instead it was a terrible inappropriate book with very little about the Nutcracker.

The Secret Life of Sarah Hollenbeck by Bethany Turner - just randomly picked it up at the library and LOVED it.

Hush: An Irish Princess' Tale by Donna Jo Napoli - I expected it to be a fairy tale, not a harsh reality historical story of violence.

South After Gettysburg: Letters of Cornelia Hancock from the Army of the Potomac, 1863-1865 - a great first-person non-fiction perspective of a young female nurse during the Civil War, who happens to be from my home county!
Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley - the absolute best telling of Beauty and the Beast!

I mostly finished series in 2017 rather than starting any series. The best series I finished in 2017 was Out of Egypt by Connilyn Cossette. I also loved the Treasures of the Heart series by Catherine Palmer, the Fountain Creek series by Tamera Alexander, the Crossroads of Grace series by Allison Pittman, and of course the classic Anne of Green Gables.

6. Wasn't on radar but loved: Speaking American: How Y'all, Youse, and You Guys Talk: A Visual Guide -- picked it up when I saw it at the library
7. Most surprising in a bad way: Full Disclosure by Dee Henderson -- This was such a disappointment. I enjoyed the 13 other books I had previously read by DH (well, one was only okay since I didn't like the main female character), and I was really looking forward to this, but it was very boring. I then learned from reading reviews that DH changed her writing style at that book, so that was an even greater disappointment, as it means that I probably won't like her books published after that either.

If you just mean a book that's been on the shelf for a while and was finally read, it was The Flames of Rome by Paul L. Maier. Probably not a lot of people know about it and read it anymore since it's so old.
