It was actually very entertaining, but also had a lot of battles. I enjoyed the translation I read, by Cecil Day-Lewis. I bought the book in 1992 so I thought maybe it was time to read it.
Interesting - I'll keep it in mind. Also, since I was curious, now I know that your edition's translator is the father of the award-winning actor!
Starting from my home country:Country 1 -Canada (North America)
Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery
This book is wonderful.
Country 6 - Mexico (North America)Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo
This book was certainly different. At times it reminded me of Spoon River Anthology but set in Mexico.
Country 17 - Hungary (Europe)Upon the Head of the Goat: A Childhood in Hungary 1939-1944 by Aranka Siegal
Country 23 - Paraguay (Latin America)The Blue Mountains of China by Rudy Wiebe
This book has very little to do with China. It is a novel of the Mennonite diaspora throughout Europe and the Americas, and a major part deals with founding a colony in Paraguay.

" I'm reading this at the moment, what did you think?
I found it heavy-going at times, but I am glad I read it. The illustrations were effective at showing just how bleak the camps are.
Country 27 - Belarus (Europe)Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster by Svetlana Alexievich
