Ok, let's do it! I have a feeling I won't without a buddy read :)
There was a buddy read a couple years ago that we could use to help us set up a new one.

I'd love to have you both along! I'll go ahead and set up a buddy read thread to start in February.
I'll say I'm going to read one 1,000 plus pager. I've got 3 or 4 on my shelves. Perhaps Dickens' 'Bleak House?'January - none
February - none
March - none
April -
Thanks Alli!
I hope you enjoy it Robert! That's on my TBR list as well, but is kinda intimidating... as are all the 1000+ pagers haha! Dickens is a great author!

I'm doing a buddy read with my son's godmother of Ron Chernow's Alexander Hamilton (730 pp)...anyone else wanna join in?
Hey Michael, you should ask this in the buddy read thread where more people might see it. (Scroll down on the group homepage to find the buddy reads folder.) Also remember to join the Doorstopper challenge, which is for books 600-1000 pgs.
I'd like to finish at least six this year. I've just had a look at my bookcase and I've got 7 that fit this category. Haven't even looked at my ebooks yet.The Way of Kings
Judas Unchained (if I manage to read Pandora's Star first)
Shōgun
Maia
Ash: A Secret History
War and Peace
A Suitable Boy
The Tale of Genji
I will go for 3 in this one although I might end up reading more.1. Words of Radiance (1088 pages)
2. Memories of Ice (1180 pages)
3. Ulysses (1056 pages)
other possibilities
Les Misérables (1900+ pages)
A Suitable Boy (1454 pages)
I really want to read the full Les Mis and/or It this year. However some other, academic options are possible.
Lau wrote: "I have two on my TBR, so that's what I'm doing. Les Misérables and The Way of Kings. No promises I'll get to those, but the overall goal is two of these, haha!"Way of Kings is VERY long. Superb writing, but you better have a taste for fantasy fiction. I have the second volume of his series but I have no clue when I will ever get to it...

Okay, I'm gonna set myself a target of 3 (possibly 4 depending on other reading)1. It by Stephen King - Finished March 26th
2. The Stand by Stephen King ('Stephen King Fans' group read for April)
3. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson
and this next one is depending on me reading Deadhouse Gates but...
4. Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson
Thanks Rosemarie, I've almost finished It, the group read element of The Stand should push me through that in a month and then I have the rest of the year to get through the 45 hour audiobook - I've just taken up running so it can accompany me around the park.
Good luck, Maureen. David Copperfield is one of my favorite classics. I don't remember it feeling that long. I hope it works out that way for you too.

My book club decided to try and read World Without End by Ken Follett for September. I haven't started yet so this reminded me. His books are great but long!
Finished my first one Plays 1937-1955 The description here says it's only 970, but the final play in the book ends at page 1017!
I downgraded my goal to one shelf bender, and almost didn't make it at all. But fortunately Kingdom of Ash was 1066 pgs, and I just squeaked it through in time!
We won't mention my initial goal of reading War and Peace, which I have completely forgotten even exists...
