I know that I have not read the book in a long time, but that is not how I pictured it at all, and why did it take over 20 years to make this movie.

I'm not sure why it took so long. Maybe it had something to do with Lowry and the rights? Some authors don't want to give things up.

Alright, everyone. What do you think of the cast?Alexander Skarsgård ... Father
Brenton Thwaites ... Jonas
Taylor Swift ... Rosemary
Katie Holmes ... Mother
Meryl Streep ... Chief Elder
Jeff Bridges ... The Giver
Odeya Rush ... Fiona
Cameron Monaghan ... Asher
Katharina Damm ... Nurturer
Emma Tremblay ... Lily
Irina Miccoli ... Fiona's Mother
Hollywood will ruin this book for me. -_-(beware, this is an angry rant). I watched the trailer and was very dissapointed. FIRST OF ALL, Jonas and the others need to be twelve. TWELVE! Not sixteen. There are no "police" that capture Jonas and the baby, he was never captured. What is up with the spaceship? This isn't an alien invasion!! Now there is a ship that aims to find Jonas, but it never lifts him up in the air! More violence, more romance, random crap the movie DOESN'T NEED. This could be a PG movie if Hollywood would stop changing the story into something it's not! What is up with the red haired girl (Fiona) suddenly rebelling? She plays a minor role! (Sigh) I do not like Taylor Swift in this movie (she's a singer, not an actor) I just hope Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges save this movie. At least in the second trailer it's in black & white. It better be in the movie.
I'll still watch it, but I expect very low reviews.
STOP RUINING THE BOOKS HOLLYWOOD! D;
(Also The Giver needs a longer beard)
True, The Giver looks a bit too... clean... in the movie... also, they got all the outfits wrong. And I was also disappointed that they're throwing in a romance just so they could sell it to more people. *sigh* I still want to watch, just to see if it's as bad as I think it'll be.(view spoiler)
I have not seen it but one of my friends did and they read the book and she said that it was not at all good
I didn't see it. I think I'm just going to ignore it and pretend like it never happened, unless I have to teach it one day and playing the movie could help.Oh well.
I think to make the book into a movie changes had to made to be made to make it more fast paced. I see why they used older actors I don't think a twelve year old could properly convey the emotions etc... But I was like ugh what is with this romance crap?? The movie would have been fine minus that!! I was super happy that there is a huge chunk of the movie in black and white so yay! Over all I enjoyed the movie but I do think they took some artistic liberties, but like I said I think it was needed to keep the movie interesting. One thing though Taylor swift is in it for all of two seconds so I was happy because I do not like her as an actress!!
I saw this this week, and I didn't mind it too much. There were a few things that really irritated me, having just read the book - there were so many changes! I understand why they needed them though, it helped move the story on and gave a bit more context to the world. In saying that, it also made it more similar to other book-to-movies, like Divergent and The Hunger Games, which was annoying. I really liked the way they handled the whole colour thing. I don't know about the actor choices. It seemed cheesy at times, but I guess it's difficult to portray the innocence of the characters without having it seem cheesy. It's definitely one where you could wait for the DVD.
