It had been a full week since the incident with Eden but for Scarlett, it felt like the event was only yesterday. The birds were a part of her growing nightmares now and so was the blood that came with the healing scars. Trying to shove that away, Scarlett trudged along the hallway with her books in her arms. She heading for the locker room since she was now free and clear to do whatever she wanted during the remainder of the day. It was a nice feeling to be done with school and yet, what could she do now? Maybe practice on her watercolours, that's for sure. Or maybe find a quiet spot to read? Or maybe even practice with her ability? Might as well since last time was a big flop. . .

Having a large stack of books would make it difficult to see where everyone around you was, and such was the case with Scarlett. Most of the students filed around her and steered clear out of her way. And it wouldn't have been wise to keep your head down while you were walking either. . . So when Scarlett suddenly crashed into a heavy being, her mind immediately thought, What kind of an idiot wouldn't be able to see me? I have books up to my head for goodness sake! As the books fell to the floor in a heap, she bent down to pick them up. "Oh great. I'm so sorry," Scarlett mumbled to whoever had bumped into her. "You could've looked where you were going, you know." When she looked up to see who it was, she snorted and shooked her head. "We certainly have an odd way of meeting each other," she said to Eden. "Remember me, Eden? Crazy bird girl? The infirmary with you jittering like a jitter bug?"

"Oh, very funny," Scarlett replied as she rolled her eyes playfully. She was glad that Eden was offering to help. Buuuuut, what if she was keeping him from something? But would he have offered if he was too busy to help out? "Yes, I would appreciate any assistance. Especially since these books are being a pain. I swear, they'll be the reason I have such a gnarly looking back when i'm older," she said, grabbing the last that had fallen. "Or maybe the teachers know this and want us to be just as horrid looking as they are. Or maybe. . . Hehe. Sorry. I get excited when I'm talking to a friend." She scratched the side of her head. Did she say it correctly? Were they actually friends? Scarlett was taking Eden up on his word when he mentioned that they were friends the week before. Or did she read the situation a bit too far?

"Woooooow Eden. That's how you should always greet your only friend," Scarlett said sarcastically, knowing that Eden must have loads of friends. Readjusting the books in her arms, Scarlett listened to what Eden said and replied, "Well I'm glad I made some sort of impact on your ever exciting life. Who doesn't want to Talk about ice-cream? I could talk about the heavenly goodness all day long." It amazed her how Eden could be on a roll when it came to teasing and cracking a few jokes. Perhaps he was a natural joker? "Thanks for helping me," she said to him as she made her way down the hall. "Oh yeah! How are you doing? Stitches and all?" When they arrived at the infirmary, Scarlett felt a bit squeamish and had to turn away to stop herself from vomiting on the floor. So she had no idea if the stitches had come along nicely or not

"No, not at all," Scarlett quickly responded. Seeing him teasing her made Scarlett relax a little, even if she worried that she may have insulted Eden. Scarlett was smirking when she said, "Hotter, huh? In that case, we should pour ice cold water on you. Since we wouldn't want you to burn up anytime soon. Now that really would be bad news."

A jokester. Her? It was strange that whenever Eden showed up she would reveal parts of herself that even she didn't know existed. Scarlett shrugged her shoulders in response to his question. "Er, no. Nothing as exciting. I have been gaining a bit more control with my ability, so that's a bonus. But other than that? It's all been rather dull." She glanced at him from the corner of her eye. "How about you? Anything absolutely wonderful happen to you this week. Other than meeting me, of course." She batted her eyelashes all silly like

"My thoughts precisely," Scarlett agreed despite the fact that Eden was teasing about it. "The safety of the students is a priority for the headmaster so if a student causes a stir. . ." She gulped nervously. "One may expect to get kicked out." And that was something she wanted to steer clear from. Being expelled was the last thing she would ever want to do and besides, where Else could she go? As Scarlett listened to him, she practically beamed when he mentioned that she was the highlight of his week. Though there could've been a double meanings with that. He could've been sarcastic. . . "You did? Ugh. How did it feel? Like someone was tugging you?" She asked him, wrinkling her nose with every word spoken from her mouth

"Awwww. It's seeet of you to care, but I don't think that you could make the headmaster rethink his decision." While Scarlett was being a bit over dramatic when it came to the whole "being expelled," but it felt great to know that even though she and Eden had only just met, that he would stand by her side (-totally a run-on sentence but smh. XD) As Eden described the feeling of having his stitches taken out, Scarlett shuddered. And she wasn't the one who that happened to in the first place! "I think I would've ran out of their like a complete nut if the nurses did that to me. Even if I was sedated." An image of her running out of the hospital wing like a maniac was definitely something that could happen to her in the near future. "And how about your classes? Teachers giving you an easy day because of your injuries?"

"Oh okay. Well if you were ALWAYS expected to hurt yourself, one way or another, I suppose it's alright that you hit the hospital bed," Scarlett said in a thick sarcastic tone. It was strange to think that Eden would often Time land himself in the Infirmary even without her help. Well, Eden had another life that didn't always include her. "Aw. That stinks. If it were me, I would definitely cash in on the pity," she told him with a wink.

"I know, right? Totally should earn a medal," Scarlett winked. It was strange to picture Eden hopping to the infirmary even without her help or even the fact that he visited it often. Scarlett was always such a careful person that she rarely landed herself in the hospital bed. "If I was the teacher, I totally would make sure you got an excuse. I mean, you're kind of injured and all. So why not allow a student a small break?"

James sat down, back against the wall holding Cassie's crumpled number in his hand. He still couldn't believe that she had given him her number, with a heart around it, after what she had done. Didn't she realize that he didn't want to be friends with her if she was going to be like that. He sighed and stared blankly at the lockers across from him.

message 13: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James looked up in surprise when Lizzy came up to him. He had been so wrapped up in his thoughts that he hadn't even noticed her. Sighing he tucked Cassie's number into his back pocket and smiled slightly at Lizzy. It didn't look like she was in the best mood either, and he was pleasantly surprised that she was worried about him anyways.
"Hey." He responded to her glumly. He wasn't one to hide his feelings about pretty much anything, so when she asked if he was alright he tilted his head in a 'could be better' way.
"I dunno... I'm just annoyed at Cassie." He admitted.

message 14: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments "You don't look at all surprised." James said wryly with a smile. It was true, Lizzy had this look of patient, knowing look on her face. Obviously she had figured out that Cassie wasn't exactly an easy person to be friends with.
"She took control of my teacher's mind. I just... I don't think that she has the right to do that." He said with a shrug. He wanted to know Lizzy's opinion on the matter. He figured that she would probably agree with him, but you never know.

message 15: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James sighed and chuckled slightly.
"Yeah, I don' think I quite got her personality right the first time." He admitted, shrugging slightly. He always thought that best of people, that included Cas. He wanted to believe that everyone was good in the beginning, and they could always become good again with the right kind of help.
"Cassie doesn't get detention. She just doesn't" He said with another shrug. He was going to shrug a lot when it came to Cassie, since he didn't quite understand her. But he wasn't just going to complain about his problems to Lizzy when she was obviously in a bad mood too.
"Do you mind if I ask why you're walking around with a scowl and a storm cloud above your head?" He asked with a slightly joking tone.

message 16: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James gave Lizzy a gratified smile. He had gotten her to laugh a little bit even though she was obviously in a bad mood. James liked to make people happy, he liked to make them laugh. That was partly why he was so nice in general. He didn't try to be, it simply made him feel good to be kind. When Lizzy said detention, James looks at her in surprise. Of all the people who were going to get detention, he didn't think it was going to be Lizzy. He was surrounded by troublemakers! For her expression though, he figured that it had been for a good reason. He took a sharp intake of breath when she revealed a black eye. After living in a gang for most of his life, a black eye was nothing, but this wasn't the streets anymore.
"Have you gotten someone to look at that?" He asked in a worried tone.

message 17: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James noticed her guilty look and his expression melted even further. He hated when people were sad and he considered Lizzy his friend, so that made it even worse. He moved slightly closer to her and put a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey... I don't think that. I think you're honorable and that guy probably deserved it." His gaze was soft and sympathetic. James had met a lot of mean people in his life. People who took pleasure in making others suffer. In fact, he had lived with a lot of those people for most of his life. But he could tell that Lizzy wasn't like that. She just didn't like it when people were unkind.

message 18: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James listened to her with sympathy in his eyes. She looked so guilty for what she had done. It was amazing how different she and Cassie were. He had met two very different girls in one day. One of them cruel and wild, the other kind and quiet. But both were tougher than James would ever be. When she said that he had assaulted her, it took James a second to actually understand what Lizzy had just said. But when he did his gaze flicked up to hers with a horrified look in them. This obviously wasn't just some everyday school bully.
"I.... oh gosh... Lizzy..." He murmured, more to himself than her as he tried to figure out what to say. Finally he managed to gather up his thoughts and form words.
"You... you shouldn't feel bad. He deserves it." James assured her softly.

message 19: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James couldn't help but feel a little bit disappointed by all this. He had left his home, and his family in the hopes of finding a new world where people were kinder. But this school seemed to be filled with just as many jerks and bullies. Obviously, it wasn't as bad as before but it was still pretty disappointing. At her question, James paused slightly before shrugging a bit. He usually didn't think that violence was ever the right answer. It hardly ever got the outcome people wanted, and he knew that from experience. But in this case, he didn't think that anything else would work.
"I think that beating him up was probably the only way to get through to him, so I think it was okay." He told her honestly.

message 20: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James copied her and shifted so he was leaning back against the wall again. He shrugged slightly at her question.
"I haven't had math yet, but I think I get the concept, thanks to you." He added with a small smile on his face. He glanced over at her before looking back at the lockers in front of them. A few more students trickled past them on their way to class and James raised an eyebrow.
"We should probably get to class. I can't skip." He said glumly, getting up. He offered Lizzy a hand to help her get up too.

message 21: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James's hand shot out and pressed against the wall as he tried to keep his balance when Lizzy slipped. He didn't react for a moment before he put his other arm around her waist to steady her as she got back up. Regaining his balance he smiled sheepishly.
"You should have warned me that you were going to fall, than I could have caught you and looked all heroic!" James joked, looking at her with a smile. He knew that was a quote from some book his brother had read, but he wasn't sure from where.
"Are you alright?" He asked, still keeping close to her until he knew that she wasn't going to slip again.

message 22: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James chuckled, a blush spreading across his cheeks. One of the curses of his pale, pale skin was that even the slightest look on his face made him look like a tomato. His brother Theo had teased him about that constantly. He blushed even more when he noticed that Lizzy was also flushing a little bit too.
"Oh, yeah. We should go. What do you have next?" He asked her, trying to stop the silence.

message 26: by Max (new)

Max | 127 comments James shook his head with annoyance.
"I have gym now." He said with a sigh. Usually James loved gym. It was pretty much his only chance to get out most of his physical energy and frustration. But today he wished that he had art instead so he could go to class with Lizzy. Luckily, gym was on the way to art so he could walk with her to class and then he would have to part ways just before the art classroom.
"But i'll see you later?" He asked, looking at her hopefully. He really did want to see her later, much more than he wanted to see Cassie. He was still angry at her, even though he had forgotten about what had happened for a while when he was talking to Lizzy.
