*Books must be more than 100 pages in length. If it is a Childrens book or a graphic novel, we need to verify it is more than 25,000 words on arbookfind.com.

*Your finished books need to be on your Uno shelf AND marked as "read" for them to count. Please add them to your shelf only after finishing the book. Make sure the dates are correct and within the time limit.

*Books can be carried over into the next month, as long as they were started after your time on February first. So books started in February and finished in March WILL count for March.

*If you want to reread a book you can not have read it within the last 6 months.

* Please make notes IN THIS THREAD of how your book may count. The more options we have the better!
Letters used in UNO are Z,O,T,H,F,I,V,E,S,N,K,P and of course if another team member has read the book before. Please friend our team members!

Jenny, Nicole, and I will keep track of all the possible options and shuffle as needed so it's really important that you give us as much information as possible.

IMPORTANT: Our UNO strategy. PLEASE READ ME.

So this is how my team kept track of what everyone was reading last year and it was really helpful for putting the books into the spreadsheet. Basically everyone will post a comment with their "[insert month here] Reading Plan." You'll just say the books and all of the cards that work for each one (see my comment below).

The plan is not set in stone so don't worry if all you have is the first book you plan on reading. As the month progresses everyone will go back to their original comment to edit, add, and remove books. They will also post the date they finished the book (information we must have for the spreadsheet). It is very important you list all of the cards your book can work for, not just for the one you've decided to read it for. The more information we have on each book the easier it is to shift and cover all the cards, especially during the end of the month scramble.

This way everyone's books and cards are in one place (instead of scattered throughout our chatting) and this will make things super easy for the captains to fill in the spreadsheet. (I'm also a little bit of an organizational freak, sorry *^.^*)

Thanks to Ricka for pointing out the color cards (the last couple years those weren't done the first month). Please use this site to see if any of your books fit the color requirement (any edition can be used as long as that is the one you have on your uno shelf). The cover must be 50% or more of the required cover, any shade of the color is fine.

Not super relevant to UNO, but I wanted to share this with other bookworms: my favorite author, Ursula K. Le Guin, has passed away ;_; As we start making our reading plans I can't recommend her enough. Everyone should pick up at least one of her brilliant, genre-defying novels as she is one of the most distinctive literary voices of our time and is not to be missed

That is really sad...I have heard many good things about her books so I will definitely make it a task to read some of her work in March.'

Is there a particular book you would recommend?

A Wizard of Earthsea for fantasy unlike any other I've ever read. Honestly the whole series is amazing - 2, 4, and 6 were my favorites.

The Left Hand of Darkness if you ever thought "if you take away gender what is left?" Which is the question she was wanted to explore when she wrote it

The Birthday of the World and Other Stories for some of her best short stories. Theres also the recently published The Found and the Lost: The Collected Novellas of Ursula K. Le Guin which is all of her novellas in one place.

Also side note, many of her books are written as part of the "Hannish Cycle" but they absolutely don't need to be read in order. Each book/novella/short story stands 100% on its own.

Okay guys were just about 2 days out from starting! Since our team is so quite, this is just a request for a final check-in before we get started. Please make sure you've got your February plan started in the comments. Any books people are especially looking forward to starting?

Some advice for first-time players: a mini-challenge will start about half-way through the month (I've got a feeling its gonna be at least partly related to that recommendation post the UNO fairy started), so I've found it's usually better to start out the month with long books and save shorter/faster reads for after the challenge starts.

Also, and this is very important, only books STARTED after the challenge begins can count. The challenge starts on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 7pm AEDST (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time). To see when this is in your time zone, use this
countdown.

Any book marked currently-reading before the timer is up can NOT be used, so please be careful :) I'm really looking forward to getting started!

Mini-challenges are a part of UNO that start around the middle of each month as a way to pick up extra points. They take a variety of different forms. Books we read will be able to count for one UNO card and one mini-challenge point each. When they let captains know what the Feb one is I'll pass it along.

Also, mini-challenges usually have their own countdown start - generally 5PM AST between the 13th and 15th. So only books started after that will work for the mini-challenge

It looks like we got all the cards covered in our plans - but don`t worry! We`ll have a bunch next month too :D Although Crown of Swords would work. It`s 64.5% blue :D It`s always good to have back-ups for color cards.
