Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Team tracking sheet is here.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I have it set up with the colored cards at the top, along with our Wild Draw 4s. The Wild Draw 4 is different this year...it is duplicating one of the colored cards that we have, which is why I want to track them.

After that, there are places to enter in what books you're reading/have read, and you can mark what categories each book qualifies for along with the reason. As we place books in hands, I or our co-captains (Ana or Michelle) will mark which hand we placed the book into so we know it's been used and how. I also have a counter towards the top in blue that tells us how many books we need for each card, and how many are marked as counting toward that card.

message 6: by Heather (last edited Feb 01, 2018 09:29AM) (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments For the color, it needs to be at least 50% of that color. There are a couple of avenues we can use to determine that. The first is to use TinEye Color Extration. If you use this, be sure to include the background colors.
http://labs.tineye.com/color/

If that is giving an answer that we don't agree on based on just looking, I can go to the captains and ask their opinion.

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Hi Team Grus!
It's late, and I'm tired from a long day hosting my 5 yo daughter's birthday party. Oh and my laptop is about to die. So I'll keep this brief for now and will come back and tell you more about me, and start filling in some info into my reserved comments.

In the meantime, please check in, introduce yourself, and get excited for some UNO!!

message 12: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (ajareads) | 127 comments Hi guys :) I'm super excited to get started. This is my third year doing this challenge, and its the most fun I have all year lol plus I always read more than usual :D I always make such amazing friends, and I just know this year is gonna be even better.

message 13: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Nice to meet you Andrea! I too love uno! This is my 2nd year and have been looking for the new one to start!

message 14: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments I'm aiming to get a tracking sheet put together today during the kids nap time. It will have our hand info so we can start planning and everyone can put in books with where they think they can fit and will allow us to move things around before submitting our hands.

Hope that works for all of you! I'm open to suggestions if you have other ideas for tracking!

message 15: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments And since I've got a minute I can introduce myself better.

This is my 2nd year playing uno, and my first year as a captain (i was a co captain last year). I live just north of Los Angeles (though still in LA county) with my husband and our two kids (5 yo daughter and 2 yo son) and our two dogs (both Shih Tzus). For work I drive to Burbank where I work in market research for one of the major movie studios. We are always really busy but especially so right now because we have some big movies out right now and more coming down the pipe.

I'm looking forward to starting to plan what to read for February!!

message 16: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 45 comments Hey everyone! I'm Michelle and this is my first year playing uno and I'm veeeery excited.

Right now, I'm also trying to find the balance between school, reading, and work, so I might be all over the place... but it's best to get this done this month so that I can concentrate well in uno next month! :D

message 17: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (deja05) | 237 comments Hi everyone! I'm Andrea. This is my third time playing UNO. I quite like this challenge, it's a nice balance between competitive and not too stressful. I look forward to playing with you all!

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments I added the tracking sheet to one of my early reserved posts, so take a look when you get a chance! We have a number of colored cards (7), and 6 Wild Draw 4s (which need to duplicate the colored cards), so start looking for books you want to read in February that might be able to count, and start filling in the sheet.

And if you have a question on whether the book works for that color, I can check in with the other captains to see what they think.

Arianna Lekhraj | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm Ana and this is my first year playing UNO and I'm so excited!! I can't wait to get to know my fellow teammates and complete the challenges! Ummm a little about me: I'm a high school student, I have a Maltese that I love with all my heart, and I'm a dancer. Can't wait to partake in this event! :)

message 20: by Pelusa (new)

Pelusa Rivera (goodreadscompelusa) Hi everyone! I am Nellie aka Pelusa and this is also my first time playing UNO in this game and I am excited!!! I would love to get to know you guys, please feel free to email and me and just say Hi! I am a disabled housewife now (yes unfortunately) and what is my saving grace is reading and reading and reading. I have a toy poodle by the name of BonJovi, after my favorite singer. I have a blog "All About Reading" located at nellieriverawordpress.wordpress.com, where I share my recommendations and reviews..Anyhoo. that's it

message 21: by Halli (new)

Halli | 129 comments Hey guys! Sorry Iโ€™m a little late to the party! Iโ€™m Halli, 28 from S.C. and I work in HR. This is my second year doing UNO and I loved it last time! Iโ€™m 8 months pregnant & will be a brand new mom when UNO starts. Iโ€™m hoping this will give me more time to read & listen to audio books since Iโ€™m too type A to sit still for too long and Iโ€™ll be off work for 6 weeks.

message 22: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Welcome ladies!

Halli -- Congrats on the baby! I read so much when my kids were newborns. I'd just sit with my kindle and read while nursing or while I was trying to get them to sleep.

โ˜ผโ™Ž Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress โ˜ผโ™Ž | 110 comments Hi I'm here. Plethora will be here soon :)

Ok intro time, this is my 2nd yr playing and I realky enjoyed playing last year. It was fun. I love reading and I'm a challenge addict. I'm a stay at home mom but I think its more work than actually going to work. Lol but when I'm not busy with my kids and hubby, I enjoy reading, movies, and I love music as well.

Can't wait to play and have some fun with you all.

Looks like it will work for 5 Yellow. Go ahead and take that spot on the tracking sheet!

message 28: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments I think with Plethora that means we have everyone checked in! I'll let UNO Pixie know that we're good to go.

message 29: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Happy Friday everyone! Anybody have good reading planned for the weekend?

I have a busy weekend planned, so possibly not a lot of time for reading. Luckily we still have a bit of time for me to finish up these long books I'm reading before UNO starts!

Andrea, do you want me to put you in the sheet for this book? And if anyone else has books they want to start planning out, feel free to add them to sheet! I won't hold you to reading those books in particular if you end up changing your mind. :-)

I know I'm a moody reader myself...even if I'm planning that I'm going to read something, I sometimes just can't bring myself to pick that one up. lol.

โ˜ผโ™Ž Carmen the Bootyshaker Temptress โ˜ผโ™Ž | 110 comments I'll see what I have that I think will work and that I might read. I tend to change up my books too. Hahaha but I'll see either way :-)

message 34: by Plethora (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 122 comments Yes, planning too far ahead doesn't always work. Too many challenges, too many tasks to meet.

message 35: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 45 comments I don't know about you guys but I'm ready to start planning my reading for next month!(:

message 36: by Arianna (new)

Arianna Lekhraj | 4 comments Me too!! Whatโ€™s everyone planning to read??

message 37: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 45 comments I know I have to read King Lear by William Shakespeare and I'm also going to be making my way through The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin .

I'm currently participating in like 10 different reading challenges so I need first to see the "tasks" for those before adding anything to my TBR. However, I'm giving this one priority. I'll check what I'd like to read and tell you guys in a minute. :D

message 38: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Yay! I'm excited to start planning reading! I haven't actually come up with my plan aside from the one random book I picked to cover a colored card, but I'll start looking more now.

Here's the tracking sheet again. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
The great part about tracking this way is that if you're reading a bunch of stuff for other challenges, you can enter the books here and we'll slot them in where they are needed. Most books can work for multiple cards, so we won't have to pick books just for this until the mini-challenges or until we really need a book that works as a 5. lol

message 39: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Basically, you just enter in a book you're reading, with the read date when you finish it, and then go across the columns and indicate if it counts for that card, and if it does, how. So, a zero because it's a stand alone book, a 5 because the author's name starts with an I, and a Skip because a character's name starts with a K.

message 40: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments But, if anyone has stuff they are planning that has a red, green, yellow or blue cover, please take a look and see if maybe it can cover one of our colored cards. Those are probably going to be our hardest things to cover. If you aren't sure if a cover will count as that color, then let me know and I can go back and ask the other captains for their votes.

message 41: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 45 comments Interesting! Now that I know how the spreadsheet works I can say that it's gonna make things easier. Smart! Thanks Heather.

I do have some books I could read to complete the covers:
Replica (Replica, #1) by Lauren Oliver -here it shows like half and half but the physical book has two covers, one fully blue and one fully yellow.
Requiem (Delirium, #3) by Lauren Oliver -I would have to read Pandemonium first
The Merciless II The Exorcism of Sofia Flores by Danielle Vega -I don't know if this counts as yellow or gold
Opposition (Lux, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout -don't know if this is green or blue or if it counts
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

I would be willing all of these :D

message 42: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 45 comments Should we make a "pool" of recommendations? In it we would have books that complete tasks that we already read but other members could still read. For example:

Zenn Diagram by Wendy Brant
Blue cover, Z title, Z character.
Pretties (Uglies, #2) by Scott Westerfeld
2nd in a series, S author, P title, Z character.

I think it would help us if we're stuck in a task and no one knows what to read. (:

message 43: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments That works for me! We can always create another sheet in the tracking sheet that has a list of potential books. I'll add something.

And I'm going to check some of those covers you included. For the first one, do you have the physical book? what color is the cover?

message 44: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments Merciless 2 is coming up as "green" but i think it looks yellow. If it's one you want to read, I'll put it out to the captains.

message 45: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments For the rest, Opposition won't work. Northanger Abbey works for blue.

And I added a sheet in the tracking document that is for a recommendation pool. Anyone can add books there that they know could work for something. If it works for a colored card, be sure to mark it with the right color!

I do have the physical book. The book is double sided, so on one side it has the cover blue with the story of Lyra, and then you flip it to the yellow cover for the story of Gemma. It looks like this http://cdn.amreading.com/wp-content/u...

We only need one yellow, so I could read Replica for that one and maybe we could use Merciless II for green or find other options. Either way is fine by me. (:

Oh, I just saw someone else had a book for yellow. I can read it for blue :D.

That's so cool. Once you read it, I'd love to hear what you think! I think we could make that work for either color, I'm sure I could get the captains to give us a vote that works for us on that.

And I asked the captains on Merciless. I'll let you know what they say. You can always add them all to the tracking sheet and then just move the ones we don't use to the recommendation pool later.

message 48: by Heather (new)

Heather Carrasco | 842 comments And I added a couple of more books to the tracking sheet to get us going a bit. I may end up changing things up a bit during the month, but for now that's what I'm planning to start with.

message 49: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 45 comments Great, thanks! I'm adding my possible books now. I'm so excited for this to start :D.

I see the books you added! We're almost there! I'll get a link to a countdown so everyone knows how much longer we have until the start of UNO!
