Hi Olivia, I never bought books from book depo up to that much, but once in bwb and they didn’t charge me, maybe because it applied in the old rules (over than $100). Maybe you could just split your order or check out the thread mbak Femmy share above, it might help better. :)
The taxation is random, a friend bought a box set worth of 30$ and had to pay half the price and get the books from the custom office. I suggest to split your purchases into several shipping or ship them to different addresses.
So far, bookdepository totally worth it. Free shipping, cheaper, never experience got tax charged.Others, periplus and offline store :)

How long does it take for the book to come?
I bought mine in Kinokuniya bookstore. It's a Japanese bookstore but they sell English books as well. You can visit their website to see the location of their stores in Indonesia or maybe you can buy it online. I visited one of the stores in Grand Indonesia, Jakarta.

But for some titles, OpenTrolley's price is better than Periplus.
If you buy physical books, Periplus is cheaper. If you buy Kindle ebooks, Amazon is cheaper, especially if you take advantage of their Kindle deals.
