One Second After discussion

The book I read is about what would happen to the U.S. if a EMP (electromagnetic pulse) went off and it follow the life of an x military worker and how he survives it.
First of all, the setting of the story is by far the most important part of this book because it needs to take place in current time or else the impact of the EMP wouldn’t affect the United States like it did. It takes place in 2017 in a place kind of like Palmyra. In our day and age we rely heavily on technology and that shows what would happen without it and that wouldn’t work at all 100 years ago. It also had to take place in a small town otherwise it wouldn’t make sense how many of the characters survived and how they got along so well.
Last of all, John’s Character changed drastically throughout the story. In the beginning of the story he is a regular dad who worries about his kid just as any parent would besides that his wife died a year before. Since his daughter has diabetes that means that when the disaster hit it made it difficult for him to help her. The one thing that didn’t change with him is doing anything to protect his daughter ,but the thing that did change was how fast he was to do the wrong thing to try and save or protect her. He also changed from a regular person in the town to one of the most important people in the council they established. The last thing that changed is how he stopped helping people and began to do what it took to keep him and his loved ones alive.
In conclusion, this was a very interesting book to read. This was one of the only books I’ve ever read that has made me think for hours about it without reading it. It might be one of the best books I’ve ever read because of the way that it makes you care for the characters so fast. I would most definitely recommend this book and give it a 9/10 rating.
