Partners in Crime
Muse A, a tenacious crime boss, is frustrated by yet another news headline about a big crime bust in the city which has ties to their own illicit operations. It seems that the mayor’s been making good on his promise to eradicate crime as of late (probably because he’s looking to run for Senator in the upcoming elections) and that ultimately spells trouble for Muse A. It’s only a matter of time before someone from the Mayor’s camp comes sniffing around Muse A’s nightclub, which operates as a front for their money laundering, but Muse Awants the Mayor dealt with before that happens. As fate would have it, Muse A isn’t the only one who wants the Mayor gone.
Muse B, the Mayor’s child, sees right through the tele-prompted speeches, contrived family photo ops, and the empty promises of a crime-free city. Muse B has seen and heard their father conducting his own illegal practices and knows firsthand that the Mayor is not a good man. Muse B has lost all respect for their corrupt father and only feels disdain and fear toward him. It’s by coincidence that Muse B enters Muse A’s nightclub after a volatile confrontation with their father, but it isn’t a coincidence when Muse A recognizes Muse B and invites them to the VIP area to talk. In this secluded area of the club, Muse B spills all of their concerns to Muse A and Muse A offers protection in exchange for information. Muse B agrees to spy on their father for Muse A with the understanding that, at the opportune moment, Muse A will get rid of the Mayor.

Vlad:The night club had two levels. A main floor with tables and chairs and a large stage where hired performers could keep the customers entertained, as well as a balcony where only people I liked could watch those on the lower floor. I also had a basement room where we held meeting for things that were a bit… illegal and maybe there was a back room where people could gamble if you knew who to talk to. The main room’s floor has a lovely black tile giving a dark mysterious feel to the mostly black and white room. The table and chairs were quite elegant and the entertainment was always on the classier side, usually musicians or singers. The balcony had a deep red carpet and all black furniture. A few couches, some tables and chairs and a bar that was much nicer than the one on the main floor.
I was currently on the main floor, near the door, speaking with on of my regular guests about the weather and other random small talk. This man was annoying but I just put on my small, calm smile, and pretending to enjoy the small talk, hands behind my back. This man was one of the few men in town who knew and spoke to the mayor regularly and so I needed him on my good side.
Xanya:As I walked into the club with my friends I was relieved. My father had no control of me right now. Today he was being real vicious. Apparently, getting rid of crime while doing crime yourself is hard work and if I am in his way I either get called names or beaten. Today I got both, so I had to leave the house and go to my friends; Trina and Eva. And they took me here, a club that was elegant and fancy. I felt out of place here, but I knew that Trina and Eva felt right at home.
Her father, Jim Evans, was the mayor and he was well known, as was Xanya, though she hated the name Xanya so she had everyone call her Blair instead. Except when they were around her father, it was Xanya. Xanya had been her mother's name, but she was now dead and Blair felt she was not worthy enough to bear the name of her mother. But her father didn't care how she felt, what he said went, no matter what.
Vlad:It was a busy night. Lost of people, lots of chatter and a lovely woman on stage who was an amazing cello player as well as a lovely vocalist. As I continued to chat with Timothy Waters, the museum curator at the Central Museum, I made sure to keep one eye on the front doors. Good thing I did to. I spotted the purple haired girl quite easily in the crowd and knew immediately who she was. My smile grew a bit wider and I quickly ended my conversation with Tim before working my way to the other side of the room to speak into the ear of one of the wait staff. He gave me a nod and all I had to do was wait. It wasn't long before the man carefully tripped and spilled a drink all over the mayor’s daughter. I quickly walked over to the girl and her friends and the profusely apologizing waiter “I do apologize for my wait staff” I said, snatching the rag the waiter was using to try and dab at the girl’s skimpy clothing, out of his hands and waved him off. “They can be a bit clumsy at times”
Xanya:As we walked into the bar arm in arm, we were laughing about something and then all of the sudden my outfit was soaked. I looked at the waiter and scoffed. "Seriously?" I asked the guy with a held back laugh. He was then patting my clothes and it wanted to laugh at him. A guy came up behind him and I looked at him. "Your wait staff? Wow..." I looked at my girls who looked at me with wide eyes and then gave me a thumbs up which I ignored. "Yeah, no kidding your wait staff practically soaked me." I looked down at my skimpy clothing and shook my head. "At least it was water." I said with a shrug. I didn't want to embarrass the waiter who spilled on me but at the same time this guy was the owner and he had seen the entire thing, or at least the part where I was soaked to the bone. "Where's the restroom?" I asked him. I could wring out the excess water in there and call it good.
Vlad:When I walked up, the girl seemed a bit exasperated. She was scoffing at the waiter and once her eyes fell on me she glanced at her friends and I could see the two girls give her thumbs up, eyes wide. I kept my expression pleasant, not giving anything away as I studied the three girls. “I will make sure to deal with the man accordingly”I told her, knowing I would be rewarding the man instead of punishing him. He had done exactly what I had asked and quite well.
“The restroom is right over there, and please, take these as a further apology” I pulled three passes to the balcony out of one suit pocket and handed them over. “I can assure you that the service upstairs is much superior than on this floor and you get a better view of the stage from there”
Xanya:I look to where the man told me where the restrooms were and nodded. "Thank you." I said and then stopped. "Oh, thank you again." I took the passes and grinned at my girls as I headed to the restroom.
Once in the restroom I grab my shirt and take it off and then Trina and Eva come in. "Oh my god! I can't believe that happened. That's insane and we haven't even had one drink yet." Trina exclaimed. I laughed and nodded. "Yeah, but look what we got." I say handing them their passes. "We have passes to the balcony! Holy shit! I've seen so many hot guys up there. Let's go!" Eva cried. "Alright, I'll meet you two up there. I've got to somehow make this wet look work for me." I said and waved them off. My skirt was fine since it was already shimmery and the water just made it look even hotter. It wrung out the water of my black crop top and then pulled it back on. Everything was alright, the shirt now clung to my curves, and that pleased me. (view spoiler)
I walk out of the restroom with my head held high and towards the stairs to the balcony. I flash my pass and then walk up. As soon as I get up there I can see my friends flirting with two men in suits and I grin. I walk to the edge of the balcony and lean on the railing looking down at the stage.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Vlad:I gave her a nod at her thanks before strolling off to the bar on the lower floor to ask the club manager to watch the lower floor while I went to the balcony to wait for the girls. I chatted with some of my men while I waited and found two that were game to flirt with the Mayor’s daughter’s friends. When the two girls bounced up the stairs without their friend it wasn’t long before they were practically attached to the two men I had tasked with distracting them. When
Xanya finally walked up the stairs she moved as if she owned the place, making her way to the railing to look down at the stage. I ordered a whiskey and a martini and made my way over to stand just behind her slightly to one side, drinks in hand. “Alice Davidson” I murmured “she is a wonderful cello player and we were lucky that she agreed to play for us tonight” I moved to stand next to her, back leaning against the railing and offered her the martini.
Xanya:I closed my eyes as I listened to the cello player play. Whoever she was, she was amazing. I heard a voice and opened my eyes. I turned to look at who was beside me. It was the man who seemed to be the owner of the club. When he handed me a drink I took it and took a sip of it. "She's very good. I can see why you would want her to play." I told the man. I held out my free hand to shake his. "Xanya Evans. But everyone calls me Blair." I told him. "This is a wonderful club. It's very elegant and fancy. If I had known that this is where we were going I would have put on something else, but my friends only said we were going to club..." I shrugged as I explained to him why I was dressed the way I was.
Vlad:She offered her hand for me to shake and I took it and sook it before letting go once more, maybe holding on just a touch to long, looking in to her gray eyes with my brown ones. “Vladimir Smith” I said in return “and I thank you... I inherited it from my father so it’s his design… but i will gladly take the compliment on his behalf”
Blair commented on her clothing choice and I looked her over once before saying. “Seeing as you are not in a tee shirt and shorts you are certainly a step ahead of some of the clintell” I murmured as I glanced over my shoulder, down at the floor. A few people in very casual clothing were wondering about in between the people who were dressed a bit classer. Taking a sip of my whiskey I asked “so what brings you here tonight?” I glanced over at Blair’s two friends before adding “other than your friends…”
Blair:When he took my hand I noted that his hands were much larger than mine and they were warm. I also noted that he held onto my hand a touch longer than was normal. I smile at him and nod. "It's nice to meet you, Vladimir." I tell him and then look down at the people. I see some people who put absolutely no thought into their outfit and I feel better about my choice of clothes. But I still feel completely out of place. And I wonder if it shows, or if I have been acting long enough that it just comes easy to me now. I look back to Valdimir as he asks me a question. Oh, just that my father was in a bad mood and I was being a coward and running from my own house. Which should be a safe place for me but is actually my own personal hell. I think. But I smile and shrug at him. "Just wanting to hang out with my girl. You know, drinking and maybe even a little bit of dancing. But this doesn't look like the kind of club to dance." I say as I look back down at the crowd of people.
Vlad:“Call me Vlad, please” I told her with a smile. Only my mother ever called me by my full name. “Maybe not tonight but we do set up for dancing some nights. The tables are easily moved aside. It usually depends on who we have playing. If you were come tomorrow night, we have a jazz band booked… Maybe not the sort of music you would have been hoping for but they usually have a nice beat to there songs.” most clubs had DJs and the like but I would rather have something that fit the style of this place. I turned and looked out at the stage and thought for a moment. “And we might be able to set up for dancing tonight…” I murmured
Blair:I nodded. "Vlad then." I say to him with a smile. "Interesting, and I can understand why you would not want to have loud, sometime obnoxious music in here." I turn to look out at the people drinking and talking to people. I then look back at him. "Really? With this kind of music? Like ballroom dancing or... what?" I ask him. I do know how to dance, I have taken dance lessons before, and I do love to dance. But I have never danced, like formal ballroom dances or the contemporary dance in front of anyone. I like to attract attention to myself to annoy my father but that kind of attention would only make my father look good.
Vlad:“Humm…” I said in thought before I looked at Blair and asked “what would you like? I assume you can ballroom dance but I would also assume you would not do so in public because that would be good publicity for your father…” I had slipped my poker face into place, a blank expression, watching for her reaction, sipping at my whisky. Really it shouldn’t shock her that I know who she is. I run one of the classer clubs in town. Very important people in town spend their nights here so you hear things. Most of the talk recently had been about the mayor. His plan to end all crime on the main floor and balcony, but down in the speakeasy styled basement you heard about the Mayor’s own crime schemes. Neither of these things were good for me or my business.
Blair:I bite my lip and shrug. Of course, Vlad knows who I am and who my father is. It's not surprising to me, I'm on magazine covers all the time. Mostly they are criticizing me and my choice of style but who the fu** gives a shit what those magazines say? I don't. Well, not really. What is surprising to me, is that only now has Vlad mentioned who I am and who my father is. No doubt he knew as soon as he met me downstairs. But he didn't say anything till now. "You surprise me and I'll make sure that your clients tonight have a great show." I tell him. Outside of my home I'm adventurous and boisterous, but as soon as I enter my home and see my father I become a completely different person. I become shy and fearful.
Vlad:I chuckled at her answer then snapped my fingers at a waiter standing against the wall. He came over and I said something in his ear before he left quickly. Soon the floor down stairs was cleared of tables and a band set up on the stage. “Now you have a choice…” I murmured, leaning close to Blair, watching her face. “Waltz or Swing?” I raised an eyebrow waiting for her answer. Both styles of dancing took skill and I wondered if she would be able to keep up
Blair:I jumped slightly when Vlad snapped his fingers at the waiter. I waited for him and then saw that the floor downstairs was being cleared and a band was set up. I looked to Vlad and grinned. "Either one. As long as you dance with me, and can keep up with me." I tell him with a playful glint in my eyes. I want to know if he can even dance. I know how to dance both the Waltz and the Swing. Both take an amazing amount of skill, however I always prefer the Swing to the Waltz, since it's a lot more fun. But I would let Vlad decide.
Vlad:I smirked at her answer and offered my arm for her to take. “Swing it is then.” It was a bit more flashy but that would be right up her alley. I perfired the waltz but I could do the swing just as well. I signaled a man on the floor and the lights dimmed and the music started up, slowly. “And I should have no trouble keeping up with you” I murmured softly.
Blair:I smiled as he chose Swing. I took his offered arm and walked down the stairs with him and then I let his arm go to get in place. And then the fun began. I showed him what I could do. And I could see the crowd watching me, I also saw phones coming out and pictures being taken as well as videos. But I didn't care. I was in my zone, and I was having fun. I looked to Vlad and smirked. "Your turn big guy." I taunted him.
Vlad:We walked down the stairs together but as soon as we reached the floor she released her grip and started to dance. I clasped my hands behind my back and watched until her looked my way with a smirk and taunted me with a ‘your turn’ I smirked right back. I took a step or two towards her and joined in the dance, doing just as well if not better. This was a shock to several of the people in the room. I never danced, no one even knew I could dance. Every Time someone had asked me to dance I had turned them down and now I was dancing with the mayor’s daughter and I was good.
Blair:As soon as he begun to dance, my smirk left my face with a look of shock. I joined him and I realized that this man might just be my equal. He was an incredible dancer and from the looks on all the people in the club, Vlad rarely dance or if he ever did. That made me feel somewhat special. I heard the song begin to die down and I gave the crowd my signature move, and they went wild as soon as we finished. I was panting as I stared up into Vlad's deep brown eyes. I bit my lip and grinned up at him. "Good choice."
Vlad:I could see the shock on her face and my smirk grew wider. She hadn't thought I could actually dance. She was panting when we finished and I found a was a little out of breath myself but not by much. My brown eyes found her gray ones and I smiled before taking her arm and leading her back up stairs and to a table off to one side. “Thank you… I thought you would like that” Two glasses of water were brought and I at sipped at mine as I watched her face.
Blair:I followed Vlad back up the stairs and sat down across from him. I took the water with a nod and a small thank you to the waiter. I took small sips and then placed the glass in front of me. I looked at the man and raised my eyebrow. "Alright. I can normally tell when someone wants something from me. And you, Vladimir, are giving me all the signs. So what do you want?" she asked him bluntly. She had a feeling that this guy was the type to get straight to the point.
Vlad:I laughed at her words and grinned at her. “Sharp. Yes… I do want something from you” My smile dropped and i leaned forward towards her and said under my breath. “I want you to spy on your father for me” I wasn’t sure how she would react to this and I wondered what I would need to do to get what I wanted. I needed to know what the mayor was up to if I was going to counteract it in anyway and this girl was the best way to get information
Blair:I raised my eyebrows. "Spy on my father? And what makes you think that I will do that for you? Just because we had one drink and a dance together?" I asked him shaking my head. "What are you doing that you don't want my father to know about?" I ask him. "If you want me to do what you're asking than I will need all the details. And if I do agree, I will have conditions." I tell him leaning back in my seat.
Vlad:I sat back and said “I didn’t thing you would do this for free…” I was silent a moment before I asked “have you ever heard of the black plague? It’s the biggest crime gang in this city. It is the most dangerous groups you can run into and your father poses a problem for us to stay in business…” my voice was quiet and my eyes never left hers. I rolled up the sleeve on my right arm and showed her the plague doctor mask over a thorny rose tattoo that was the mark of the black plague. The only difference between mine and the others was that my mask had a crown. Rolling my sleeve back down I added “I’m sure we can come to an agreement”
Blair:My eyes widened as I nodded. "Of course I've hear of them." Everyone had heard of The Black Plague. I had heard them first when I had been eavesdropping on my father. Apparently, they were the gang to beat. And they were a hard bunch to track down. I bite my lip again and nodded looking at his tattoo. It was a badass tattoo. "I'm sure we can. I've heard that you're gang is somewhat violent and has been known to kill their enemies. If I do this for you, my only request is that you make sure you kill my son of a bitch father."
Vlad:I smiled at her response. “I think I can do that for you… are you sure there isn't anything else you want?” I was surprised that she would want her father dead. I knew she didn’t like him much but she must hate him if she wanted him dead. We could certainly do that for her but there must be something else she wanted. “We have a lot of power in this city, you know…”
Blair:I nodded and let out a breath that I didn't know I was holding. He would be gone. My father needed to be gone. He frightened me to no ends. And with him alive I would always be under his control, I would have no freedom. I shook my head. "I just want him gone." I told Vlad with a strong voice.
Vlad:I narrowed my eyes when she left out a breath. “Your father scares you…” I murmured softly. She seemed relieved that we could take him down. What about that man had her scared, if she was scared. It was a guess but I was good at reading people. I could be wrong but I didn’t think I was.
Blair:I look to Vlad when he states that my father scares me. I bite my lip and look away. No one has been able to see how much he frightens me, no one has been able to look past my facade and see me for who I really am. A frightened girl. And yet, Vlad was able to see my fear. I shrug indifferently. "Maybe I'm just sick of my father telling me what to do and how to do it." I say, trying to sound snobbish like Trina sounds when she talks about her parents. But even to my own ears it sounds false.
Max:She bit her lip and looked away so I knew I was right even as she shrugged and told me that she was just sick of her father telling her what to do. She was trying to sound like a snob but it sounded fake and I knew that even she could tell she was fooling no one but I pretending to believe her. “Ah… I see” I murmured watching her face. “Well… It will be a while before we can kill him for you… so if you need somewhere to stay for any reason, you know where to find me” If she needed anywhere to hide is what I meant. I pulled a card out of a pocket and handed it to her. “Now if you find out something you think I should know but you can’t come here you can call this number… I can almost always be reached by this number” only partly a lie. I could always be reached by that number. It was a phone only one other person had the number two.
Blair:I was grateful that Vlad didn't push me about being afraid of my own father. Instead he acted like he believed me, but I could tell he didn't believe it for one second. I smiled and nodded. "Thank you." I took the card and looked at it. I put the card into my bag and then nodded once more. "I will make sure I keep in contact. And thank you for the offer." I look around the club, searching for my friends. I find Eva with the two men that they had been flirting with but Trina is not with them. I look for her and eventually find her up against a wall with a man. I roll my eyes at the sight. She is such a slut but I love her anyways.
Max;Blair took my card with thanks and started to look around for her friends. I could only see one for a moment with the men I had set tasked with discretion. The other girl was off to one side, against a wall. That was not a man I knew and it made me frown. “You have some interesting friends”
Blair:I snorted and then laughed. "Yeah, no kidding." I smile and shrug. "Hey, Vlad. Where the heck did you learn to dance like you did?" I ask him. I know from looking at my friends that either I will be here for quite a while or I will have to walk home by myself. Neither option is something I want but for now I can talk with Vlad for a little bit till I finally have enough and head home.
((Max? Lol. It's Vladimir right?))
