What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Help! A Patron at my library is looking for a specific book she remembers from when she was a child, would have been published in the 1960s or earlier. She believes the cover displayed a boy and a girl with ice skates ( or could have been just a boy). She believes the story was about their first time ice skating. She also thinks that the title may have had a person's first name in the title. Any guesses?

The First Sign Of Winter (1973) by Mary Blount Christian is a picture book with 40 pages. "Mama--looking for mittens, scrubbing the storm windows, and taking Craig ice skating--is really the first sign of winter."

Far Out the Long Canal (1964) by Meindert DeJong has illustrations but it's 231 pages long.
