I'm about 2 chapters in. Interesting so far. At this point I'm mostly curious about why Tara was kicked out of magic school. It's strange that it seems like she was kicked out, but not expelled?

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'm about 2 chapters in. My brain is having a hard time setting it - I keep putting it into "epic fantasy" then reading things like suits and cigarettes. But it seems like an interesting world so far.

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I have got up to Chapter 4, and i am like Suzanne. I think it is an alt version of modern day, then i think it is fantasy, then in an alt 1920's style.

I think the whole kicking out was a little weird - falling to her death! That's some kicking out.

I am also unsure if she has multiple personalities - raising zombies sounds pretty evil, but she helped people with her skills in legal matters.

Put it this way, i want to read more to figure out more.

Not much to say yet. Like most Urban Fantasy it's a mystery book but instead of a detective/cop we've got lawyers.

The magic system seems interesting. I hope we learn more about how it works though, because so far there doesn't seem to be much in the way of rules.

It appears to be a requirement of Urban Fantasy to include vampires. I could do without those, but at least they don't seem to be the focus.

I've never read anything with gargoyles before, so that's cool.

Heather (blis335) | 25 comments I'm a little behind on my reading of this one. I'll catch up soon enough. I have gotten to the raising of the zombies to help the town and her subsequent new job.
I really want to read more to find out what is going on.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Yeah - I like that it is quite different!

Sumant | 522 comments I think the magic is connected somehow with the crack, because when Tara falls she lands near the crack and hallucinates many worlds where she sees actual earth like scenes, where she sees airplanes and all.

The murder mystery is okish.

I read this as: I think the magic is connected somehow with crack (ie crack-cocaine).

And I'm like..crack is whack! I was also very confused. I need more coffee..

Seriously, but sounds like new fantasy series where in magic is crack powered.

Any plans to write?

Haha.

Suzanne | 1582 comments You could have REAL "powder" mages.
