Snuggly Books would like to officially welcome everyone to 2018 with an update on our forthcoming books for the first half of the year. Included in the current bundle and to be released sequentially thereafter are Welshman Arthur Machen's collection of prose poems, Ornaments in Jade, Douglas Thompson aka "The Scotsman Scribbler"'s collection of poetry and short stories, The Fallen West, S. Henry Berthoud's book of Misanthropic Tales, Ursula Pflug's short novel Down From, Spirits of the Vasty Deep by Brian Stableford, and Octave Mirbeau's work of scabrous "creative non-fiction," The Death of Balzac.

Also soon to be released are the twin anthologies representing past and future, Decadence and Symbolism: A Showcase Anthology and Drowning in Beauty: The Neo-Decadent Anthology. Both of these collections are incredibly diverse looks at every facet of the Decadence.

The second half of the year will bring new translations of works by the revolutionary lesbian writer and poet Renée Vivien and numerous works by the groundbreaking and previously untranslated Jane De La Vaudere, as well as new material from previous Snuggly authors both living and dead. Brian Stableford continues his tireless and doughty translation regimen: while other translators of a similar prolificacy must resort to amphetamines and research assistants, Brian Stableford operates sober and alone, driven only by raw inner fire.

2018 will also see the release of more interviews and promotional material from popular Snuggly authors...so be sure to join in the group readthroughs and discussions as they arise!

Karl | 13 comments -- How does Snuggly Books determine what book gets the hardcover treatment ? --

Length, and what we think the demand will be.

Drowning in Beauty came out at a time when we were having difficulties with the printer, which seems to be mostly resolved now (we hope!).

Shorter books mostly do not get hardcovers.

-- I try and order early as 60 copies of a hardcover seems like a short print run to me ... I received the new books yesterday and greatly appreciate what you are doing, the new books are beautiful ! --

Thank you. Yes, 60 is not many. We try to do as many of these as we can. Sometimes there is also unfortunately not the budget.

We also try to make the hardcovers different when time permits and it seems appropriate. For instance, the interior of La Vaudere and Aiaigasa have illustrations not present in the paperbacks.

Brendan Connell | 34 comments Isn't there a new story in Drowning in Beauty?

-- There is no story by Jane de La Vaudere in my copy of "drowning in beauty" unless it is there under nom de plume, perhaps I have a defective copy ?

There is however a new story by D.P. Watt (which I read last evening, I can not get enough of Mr. Watt or Mr. Murphy's work. for this I applaud Snuggly, I am reading "Drowning" out of sequence and I must applaud Mr Corrick in his selection process, I will have more to say later. --

Snuggly's next bundle package offer is up on the site! Head over to:

http://www.snugglybooks.co.uk/special...

to check it out. This newest bundle is one of the most varied yet, with a new edition of perennial favorite Arthur Machen's tale of urban mysticism, N; Now We Can See the Moon, the latest novel from Berit Ellingsen, whose renown is steadily increasing; Jane de La Vaudère's transgressive The Demi-Sexes and The Androgynes; Quentin S. Crisp's Japanese travelogue Aiaigasa; and a new translation of Jean Richepin's decadent classic The Bull-Man and the Grasshopper.

As if all that weren't enough, the bundle also includes TWO genre-defining anthologies. Brian M. Stableford's monumental Decadence and Symbolism: A Showcase Anthology is the most comprehensive overview of its kind ever released, while the Justin Isis and Daniel Corrick-edited Drowning in Beauty: The Neo-Decadent Anthology offers mesmerizing visions of 21st century Post-Naturalism. Taken together, these two books contain close to a HUNDRED distinct and compelling short stories.

And we're not even halfway through the year yet! Stay tuned for new releases from modern writers Colin Insole, Damian Murphy and Justin Isis, as well as more Renée Vivien, Jane de La Vaudère and new editions of Edward Heron-Allen and Count Eric Stenbock's Studies of Death!

2018 is our most diverse and exciting year so far and we are interested to hear from all readers.

The final bundle offer of 2018 is now up:

http://www.snugglybooks.co.uk/special...

This contains the following eight books:

1. The Shadow, by Maurice Level, translated from the French by Bérengère Drillien

2. Neo-Decadent Manifesto of Women’s Fashion, by Justin Isis

3. In the Stillness of Marble, by Teresa Wilms Montt, translated from the Spanish by Jessica Sequeira

4. Harlem Smoke, by James Champagne

5. Babels, Balloons and Innocent Eyes: Short Stories and Poems in Prose, by Charles Morice, translated from the French by Brian Stableford

6. Halyartes and Other Poems in Prose, by Éphraïm Mikhaël, translated from the French by Brian Stableford

7. Faustina and Other Stories, by Renée Vivien and Hélène de Zuylen de Nyevelt, translated from the French by Brian Stableford

8. Alcina and Other Stories, by Guido Gozzano, translated from the Italian by Brendan and Anna Connell

One of the titles, Justin Isis’ Neo-Decadent Manifesto of Women’s Fashion, is available in paperback only (in an edition of 36 copies); the other seven titles are available in both paperback, and limited edition hardcover. So there are two bundle offers—one for all paperback and one for seven hardcovers and one paperback.

As is always the case with these bundles, most of the books will be sent out significantly before their release dates.

Snuggly hopes everyone is enjoying the holiday season. Many more books to come next year!

Half the books have been sent to the printer already, and the other half will be sent this week. So, they may or may not be to you before Christmas. It mostly depends on the speed of shipping. Most likely, however, you will have them by the New Year. Or if not, it would only be days later.

Peace.

-- The Yen of pending arrival surges profoundly in my being, thank you. Peace, love, dope. --

Jason Rolfe | 6 comments I'm extremely interested in the Gozzano, having read (it seems like forever ago) Requiems and Nightmares. Stableford's translations from the French continue to impress. I just received the most recent Snuggly Jean Lorrain; I'm looking forward to adding Faustina to my shelves as well.
