Cupcakes & Machetes (hybridcreature) I thought we could start a thread for book suggestions. This way perhaps, people will find some new books/authors to try out.

I'll go first. My first recommendation is YA fantasy.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. I just finished reading it a couple of days ago and it is absolutely fantastic. I cannot wait to read the next two books.
It really is a very unique book with a GREAT main character.

I would recommend The Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder. I love that book a lot. It's one of the best series out there without a doubt!!

Cupcakes & Machetes (hybridcreature) I just finished reading Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. What a great book! It's slow building but the world she creates is so vast and interesting that I didn't mind it at all. Plus, I really loved the way she integrated the world's history into each chapter.
It's the first book in her Farseer Trilogy and I will definitely be picking up the second book. :)

Genre: Epic Fantasy.

Dee | 56 comments Yeah, the Hunger Games series was really good. It just kept getting better and better with each book in my opinion.

Cupcakes & Machetes (hybridcreature) Mind blown. The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. It's considered a Grimdark fantasy, but I personally loved it. Maybe I just don't consider too many things dark anymore, because there is a lot of torture and murder but many parts are still light and fun. Lots of scheming and thievery. Beautifully written and eloquently arranged. I had a lot of fun with this one.

Alyssa (goodreadscomAlice_Skywalker) | 61 comments If you haven't already read it, Beastly is a great novels. It was super creative, and it's just one of those fairy-tale-turned-modern books, which I like. Another book like that is Between The Lines by Jodi Picoult. I have a soft spot for books with endings where the guy gets the girl...but I also like novels like Fahrenheit 451 where romance is just an illusion; in fact, everything about Guy's life is. But anyway, those are my three book recommendations.

Cupcakes & Machetes (hybridcreature) If you like the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George RR Martin, you should consider reading this book: The Emperor's Blades (Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne, #1) by Brian Staveley . Great world building, awesome characters and an exciting story line. I look forward to the sequel that comes out next year.
