Kate (katemarie12) | 3 comments I've read some of the Bitch Planet comics and used this task as an excuse to read some of the Triple Features. Love them!

What I read: Bitch Planet: Triple Feature, Vol. 1

The actual start of the series: Bitch Planet, Vol. 1: Extraordinary Machine

message 4: by katy (new)

katy i haven't had a chance to read it yet, but the artwork is out of this world!!

Check out the Tuskegee Heirs! I met the guys at Dragon*Con this year and they were super nice.

Ryan Rousseau | 1 comments Read this last year and enjoyed it: https://smile.amazon.com/Genius-1-Tp-...

message 6: by Brent (new)

Brent I read March by John Lewis, Aaron Aydin and Nate Powell for this and it was utterly fantastic. Both depressing and inspirational all at the same time, and (unfortunately) as poignant as ever with 45 in office.

Ooh yes. Another good one. Good choice

Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normal

I liked it. I think it's even going to be a movie this year!"

This book looks so good. I'm not reading it for the challenge, but I've put it on my TBR. The art is so intricate and the story is multilayered. So excciting.

message 12: by Sheneve (new)

Sheneve Butler | 8 comments I read Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening

I really like it, and will continue reading them after I've worked my way through my other books.

message 13: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Ahhh! Bingo Love is absolutely lovely and definitely resulted in some *serious* feels. Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening is also utterly gorgeous and I NEED to catch up. I read the first couple issues (basically the first volume) and there's more....and I need to finish it!
For those still looking for something and want to go darker in theme, Victor LaValle's Destroyer is completely brilliant. Victor LaValle basically takes the Frankenstein mythology and makes it relevant and dark, and it's a great comic. The trade paperback just came out a few weeks ago. And Victor LaValle is super brilliant.
I haven't determined what I want to use for this category, because while I have read things that apply to this, I sort of want to leave it blank to encourage myself to read MORE things. If Abbott by Saladin Ahmed is released in TPB this year, I may use it. The first issue was quite promising! I also just started reading My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Nagata Kabi so really, there are a lot of options.....
I have more options. But I'll stop now. Because if I keep going I literally will not stop. ♥

Sarah (knittingarch) | 8 comments Starting Paper Girls, Vol. 2! Cliff Chiang is one of the artists!

message 15: by LindaN (new)

LindaN (l1ndan) | 5 comments A good choice for this category is Incognegro, by Mat Johnson (2008, 2018). It is a graphic account of an investigation into lynchings in the United States.

aaah! thank you for reminding me what it was I tried to place a hold on through our library's app that didn't go through. I knew when I looked at my list of holds, something was missing.
I just started reading the single issue Incognegro: Renaissance which is a prequel of sorts that is 2 issues in and it is SO GOOD. I hadn't heard about it until I stopped into my local comic book store and one of the rad people on staff recommended it to me (because they know me too well, which is why they get so much of my money....) I am looking forward to reading the original series!

message 17: by Harper (new)

Harper | 36 comments I highly recommend The Arab of the Future: A Childhood in the Middle East, 1978-1984: A Graphic Memoir by Riad Sattouf. It's a poignant memoir series in graphic novel about the author's childhood in Libya, then Syria. Extremely popular in the original country of publication (France). There was a great profile of the author and the series in The New Yorker.

Ditto! I lent it to my friend, who has NOT given it back (grrr) but is buying extra copies for every woman she knows!

I loved the two women pulling a face as another woman hands round the photo of her "so handsome" husband. So true to life!

message 24: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vll1990) I read In Real Life for this challenge!

This is good to hear!! I have Embroideries checked out from the library as well as Persepolis 2. I'm using both of them for different challenges. I read Persepolis last week and loved it so much!!

This thread is confusing me. Is it a duplicate? I thought I had already posted that I was reading Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return for this prompt, but its not here. so I went back and checked and I do see another thread, but then I can't figure out where this one is coming from. Oh well....

This one was on my list too for the comics this year, I can't wait to read it. I've had my eye on it for awhile, so its good to hear a recommendation for it :-)
