In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills (“they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news”), to the eating habits of four year olds (“there is no difference between a four year old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor”).

Reminiscent of Bill Cosby’s Fatherhood, Dad is Fat is sharply observed, explosively funny, and a cry for help from a man who has realized he and his wife are outnumbered in their own home.

Hey Andrea, I saw the description of this book - seems a funny read without any particular story line but his life experience. Plz lemme know if i misunderstood it. I have never read such a book.

I decided to start early because I wasn't sure it would count for Feb's challenge and I needed something to listen to lol.

Oh my god, you're pregnant (view spoiler)[ Okay I totally agreed with everything he said in this section because WOMEN ARE AMAZING and we're not told this enough! If men had to carry babies I'm pretty sure the human race would've died out long ago. I really like hearing about Jim's kids, it makes me think a lot about my possible futures. And I don't think being called a MILF is a compliment, it's really just gross. But mom's totally can be sexy, doesn't mean people not to comment on it. Also why would he agree to go on vacation with his friends and their tiny baby!?!
That was so weird and that baby should not have been on the trip. Yuck (hide spoiler)]

A critical Analysis of Children's literature (view spoiler)[ Kid's books are weird. I know if I ever have kids I will of course read to them, but will I read these books who knows?? So kids books are so weird. I also agree that Jim's wife needs her own wife. It kind of goes along with something Amy said in her own book. I'm really enjoying this book though I can hardly relate to a lot of the things Jim has gone through, this is still very entertaining. (hide spoiler)]

A self portrait (view spoiler)[ I thought Jim's thoughts on parenting and how he interacts with other parents was very interesting. It's like how do you strike up a conversation with a random person when all you know you have in common are your children?? And the struggle to get kids to go anywhere just sounds horrible. You win, McDonald's (view spoiler)[ Man hearing Jim talk about food made me hungry lol. Probably also because I haven't eaten like at all today. But it's been a busy day. I really feel for Jim and the loss of his relationship with sleep. As a college/grad student I've felt that, but not because of kids but because of grades and life getting in the way. I am so glad I only have to worry about getting myself to fall asleep at night. (hide spoiler)]

Are you Done yet? (view spoiler)[ This section made me sad/angry because what right do other people have to judge you for how many kids you do or don't have. They don't! If you want one kid or 7 good for you. You don't want any, good for you. Other people don't need to be judging and this was just frustrating. Ugh (hide spoiler)]

Vice President: (view spoiler)[OMG this was so freaking funny. I never really saw my dad has the VP nor my mom has the President. It was probably switched for me. Either way it was hilarious to read how he views his children seeing him parent-wise. I'm pretty sure I'm going to cry at the end of the book, maybe before I do, all from laughing so hard. The Evil Within: (view spoiler)[Okay, again, I can totally relate to kids being sick all the time - well, because when I was a kid I was sick basically ALL the god damn time. You name that random day in your mind I was probably dying from some type of plague. I seriously had the worst immune system ever and my parents have no idea why. Now, I rarely get sick. A Critical Analysis of Children's Literature: (view spoiler)[LOL the sesame street! and omg I've read and loved some of these books. The giving tree, the very hungry caterpillar, goldilocks and the three bears, goodnight moon, and LITERALLY all of the books by Dr, Seuss. Seriously, I loved all of those books and when I could read by myself - boy did I reread the shit out of them. I don't even care what else was in this chapter. I was way too busy thinking of the good times in my past. (hide spoiler)]
A Self Portrait: (view spoiler)[omg I can't believe people take the subway to school when they were younger. yes they are with their parents but I either had the school bus or I walked to school by myself. I doubt my parents would let me take the subway anywhere when I was school. Pretty sure I didn't ride the metro until high school/college. Mostly college though. (hide spoiler)]

Finished: (view spoiler)[OMG! the ending mentions BACON omg I'm in heaven! I'm so freaking happy I love all kinds of bacon so I was so freaking happy that's what the last chapter was about. Omg seeing his kids reading a book titled BACON made my heart pitter patter so hard. Overall, I really liked this book. No, I loved this book. I really hope he wrote another book because I need more of Jim in my life. HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTT POOOOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEET,/i> (hide spoiler)]
