Ash has two feelings about suddenly getting superpowers that she has no control over: one she hates them because she doesn't want to accidentally set all the books on fire and two she kinda likes them because it makes it easy to grow banksias by just walking around a bit.

And maybe she looks out of place — an Indigenous Australian girl in a town in America — but that doesn't explain why the new people give her weird looks but don't do the same to her parents (especially her mother). Maybe it's the new people who are weird, not her.

( having grown up with various indigenous nations' stories, ash is going to be very salty if she finds out that she's mimosa, because her first thought when that word is mentioned is the bratty sister in the five islands story (pg 3) )
