this is one of my all time favourites. Don't think I can do a reread with so many BRs planned for this date but I'll pop on the thread to talk about it if that's ok with you guys. :)

I wanted to re-read Petrik and I promised Zaara I'd do it with her. I love this series, I think it's my Hobb's favourite. Enjoy!

I actually started too because I hurt my arm carrying Oathbringer in my purse and now I have a painful bruise starting....I'm not even kidding.......
Sooo OB is staying at my office until I finish it and I have Ship of Magic as an ebook.

Just finished chapter 2! Just wanna say that I love how different this is from the Farseer trilogy so far, not that I disliked Farseer (except the last book), but it's awesome how it can feel so different even though it's in the same world. Oh also, love love Hobb's writing in 3rd person, still wish a paragraph won't last more than one page though xD

I feel the same way - I just finished chapter 1. I liked Farseer and felt it started off strong, but I became less interested as the books went on. This is something new and fresh.

Chapter 6

(view spoiler)[That was a great chapter. Loved how every POV so far turns out to be connected to one other, most of them being family related. This is like Modern Family or something xD

Also, that entire scene around quickening Vivacia was really well written, and Kyle seems like the Regal of this trilogy. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, I'm still on chapter 3.... Just when I think we have our full cast of main character POVs, another one pops up so while I like it, I'm having a bit of trouble getting into it.

Yeah, I get what you mean! It took a bit of time for me adjusting to the full cast, I think it was chapter 4 or 5 where I finally got into it!

I started earlier today after putting it off for the last month or so. I really liked Farseer but Hobb’s writing is just so taxing that I found it hard to start another of her series.

Lots of POVs. I like how they seem to all connect too. I’m doing the book in audio and will definitely need to look up a character list.

I’m up to 60% and really loving it.

On Kyle (view spoiler)[So at first I was like he seems like a dick but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. His little tirade on how he was trying to save their fortunes for his kids made me a little sympathetic even though his approach was awful. Then he started on getting into slavery and I was like well there goes any redemption for him. Finally he just destroys his wife and doesn’t even have the sense to realize it. Hope he doesn’t make it through the whole trilogy and hope Malta goes down with him. (hide spoiler)]

Finished last night. I really enjoyed this one. Hobb is super tough on her characters though. Everytime I think ok this is where there story turns around it doesn’t. I like how all the threads seem to be coming together but with a ton of questions still to be answered.

Don’t see the sequels scheduled. Is anyone else planning on continuing the series?

This is a true trilogy and much will not be decided until later. Really enjoyed the character development and the nautical story line, of which I don't usually.

I have also asked about the sequels being scheduled in the other thread.

I've been slow but am now done with other books and am dedicated to finishing this book. 25% through. I like how Hobb gives even the bad guys motivation. Like, you understand they're bad guys, but you understand where they are coming from. They're not just token bad guys. And even the good guys have bad qualities. Def not 2 dimensional characters.

I think most of the characters in here generally can be annoying sometimes, even Wintrow which is my favorite POV. But I think it's due to how realistic they are, Hobb is seriously good at writing characters imo

It's quite rare for me to enjoy a heavily nautical centered trilogy but I really enjoyed this one. I'm already up to the third book, can't wait anymore xD

You nailed it, I'm about halfway through the audio and have at one time or another been irritated with every character. But it makes them very relatable.

I'm about 60% through the audiobook. The only characters I really like are Althea, Brashen, and Paragon. But I do like the story so far. Just everyone else pisses me off at points.

I know I'm basically talking to myself, but Malta is really aggravating me.

You aren't Diana, I at least follow the discussion but stay quiet because I don't want to spoil anything! :)
