Daehyun had come to the park to write — it was more peaceful than the dorm, and he didn't have people looking over his shoulder every few minutes and stressing him out. But he'd long since abandoned his attempt in favour of sitting there staring blankly into the distance and ripping grass out of the ground, overthinking everything like he always did. It wasn't even actual thinking, just aimless worrying about nothing whatsoever — but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get the anxiety to go away. He couldn't focus — not that it would make a difference, since he never ended up liking the lyrics he wrote anyway — and he couldn't make it go away, so he had descended into this blank state where nothing worked or interested him long enough to drag him out of it and the vague feeling of worry had become at home in his chest and refused to leave.
There is one main problem that comes with working out so that you can have abs for your shirtless music video: even three years later, your fans expect you to still have abs, and to show them at any and every concert. Hence why Jeongsu had recently upped his exercise regimen — about 5 minutes after the concert dates had been posted was the first owo are we going to see jeongsu's abs again. As he crossed through the park, Jeongsu spotted a familiar face, and didn't think twice before jogging over. "Hey," he said, raising a hand to block the sun from his eyes. "It's a good day to be outside, isn't it?"
Daehyun looked up, surprised that anyone would approach him and attempt conversation — until he realised that it was Jeongsu. It was something both incredibly annoying and incredibly impressive to be able to go up to anyone you knew and strike up a conversation, irrespective of the setting, and a skill that Daehyun would never possess. "I guess," he replied, noncommittally. It was, probably — the weather was fairly typical of a so-called "good" day — but he'd never particularly enjoyed being outside unless it was a time of year when bugs were less prolific. Running into people you knew was another significant downside of leaving the house, and one that Daehyun preferred to avoid. It isn't that he dislikes them — unless it's Jaehyuk, but Daehyun has always considered him a special case — it's more that he prefers only meeting people on his terms, when he's prepared for it. Conversation has never been his strong point.
Daehyun liked his alone time. Jeongsu understood that. It wasn't uncommon for any of the members to get home after a schedule and disappear into their respective spaces and not be seen or heard for several hours. And so maybe Jeongsu shouldn't have stopped, except — if Daehyun's group's leader couldn't talk to him, who could, right? He wasn't going to camp out and bother Daehyun forever, anyway. Making note of the Daehyun's notebook, he asked, "Working even on your day off?"
"If you can call staring at a blank page for a few hours work," Daehyun said, not bothered to pretend he'd actually achieved anything. Even if he had written anything, it probably would have found its way into the nearby bin sooner or later. He wasn't picky about his lyrics — he just wanted them to fit, and they never did. Besides, he never knew what to write about.
It occurred to him, vaguely, that Jeongsu had managed to draw Daehyun out of his blank state. He was actually awake now, and he could hear kids yelling in the distance. The leader had always been good at that sort of thing — good at engaging people, just by being himself. Daehyun, on the other hand, was good at pushing people away when he shouldn't, and accidentally saying the wrong thing.
Jeongsu could say a lot of things. That Daehyun was so hardworking, that this working on days off was one of the reasons that a group like Jinx was able to succeed, that he was arguably the best lyricist in the group. Jeongsu also realized, after more than seven years, that it might as well go in one of Daehyun's ears and out the other, because the kid was chronically self-deprecating.
So Jeongsu laughed a little bit, eyes crinkling. "Well, it's more work than I've done today," he said lightly. Which was, well, true, running aside, because Jeongsu had spent the first half of the day laying in bed, drinking chocolate milk, and watching anime.
Daehyun shook his head. "Now you're definitely overestimating how much work I've done." Jeongsu was exercising — that, Daehyun would count as more work than he'd done all week. The extent of Daehyun's exercise regime was practicing the dance routines.
He got to his feet slowly, picking up his book. Judging by the way his eyes refused to focus properly, he should either go home and sleep or go home and eat — but he was sorely tempted to stay out longer just to avoid being around people. Then again, he'd already run into Jeongsu, and it was entirely possible that the others were off doing other things and wouldn't be around to annoy him (by others he meant Jaehyuk).
