BAHAHAH enjoy ! I can totally relate - hubby and i went away for the weekend (Savannah!) and i think I’ve been tipsy a little too often last two days :)
But - started the book... about two hours in ....
ok the beginning freaked the sh...out of me - the puking and dying and crows and madness?!?
Im at the part where the witch and boyfriend (also witch :) ) are leavingrg New York .... overall - very creepy and so far really interesting. I just hope that Nora R. doesn’t ruin it with some nonsensical mumbo-jumbo curse that the three couples have to break over the course of the next three books (because that’s pretty much what she does every time!)...
But im liking the apocalyptic theme and the pace of the book.
Tell me tho, maybe i missed it - at the beginning, the older couple that dies , their daughter was preggo without twins... so the daughter’s hubby (Tony) dies , too... What about the daughter and the twins?!? Was that not mentioned yet or did i just tipsily cruise by that part?
Ohhh nvm, i just heard it right now- the mother of twins is still alive!
Slowly starting to catch up. I think. There are a lot of characters to keep track of. I've never been a fan of multiple characters being introduced all at once.
Btw, I love Savannah! Lived in the area for about 9 years back in the late 90s early 2000s.
Savannah is amazing- sooo cute! And people are so nice and friendly! I mean - you are probably used to that in the south.... but i am amazed every time! The north is totally different :) (i mean i love New York and Boston and Chicago, etc... but people in the south are completely different! ) I was amazed in Texas a few years ago.... New Orleans also.... Now Savannah ... people are so polite and friendly and nice ! :)

I'm a little over 5 hours in. Arliss and her gang have met up with Jonah and his gang and they have just stopped to refuel and feed babies

What’s the whole “pregnancy is 10 months long” deal?? Does the author seriously not know it’s 9?!? She tries to explain it by saying it’s because it’s 40 weeks , which is 10 months... ummm, yeah, only if every month has only 28 days!
Almost done...Not sure how i feel about this one... First of all - it started off all “doom and gloom” and it was sooo freaky... i loved the beginning! Then all of a sudden it’s all about fairies and witches and superhuman powers.... The new community they created is interesting, but they’ve been talking about it for the last 3 hours of the audiobook and it’s getting boring! When is something gonna actually happen?!?!
I didn't get much read yesterday. Busy day. Today will also be pretty busy. We are taking a family trip on the 12-15 to Six Flags & Dallas Zoo so I've been running around buying tickets, and clothes and oil changes. Today I'm getting new tires and then I have a session with my personal trainer... fun fun!I'm just now at the part where they reunited with whatshisname's brother.

I'm still working my way through a little bit at a time. I'm at the part where Eric flipped out and became a total douche because everyone else got upset that he and Sean took more than their share of rations. So far it's okay. It's weird because it feels like there should be zombies. It has a zombie plot vibe. But no zombies. Lol.
Max and Lana are so mushy it's like... ugh
Hahahha yeah exactly- i kept waiting for zombies to pop up ! It feels like that kinda book , less than a magical one
I'm really creeping through this one. Which is disappointing since I had high hopes. It feels like this book is more of a set up for the series. Meet the characters, learn their abilities, learn how New Hope is started. For a book that is chock full of magical beings there certainly isn't much excitement happening. Just a lot of sitting around planning and traveling. When Eric and his girl finally went off I was like yassss! Finally some action! But it was over so quickly. Sean's death happened so fast I had to do a double take just to make sure. Poor schmuck. All I'm saying is I need more action. There isn't a single character that stands out. They are all meh.
Yup! That’s exactly what i was saying - i felt like it was hours and hours and nothing was happening .... and then Eric and Alegra got evil and i was like “ooook cool” - super fast, Sean is dead , they are going to Port Hope (or whatever it’s called).... so anticlimactic.... And yeah Lana and Max .... wait for itttttt ....
They are meeting right now talking about setting up rules/laws and giving out jobs. Snooze.
More traveling, more scavenging, more fixing shit...
I told ya... i was bored af. I felt like i was the “settler “
I'm finally done. What a disappointment. So many characters you had to learn but in the end it didn't even matter. So many magical people with superpowers but we never get to actually see anything happen. Except when they needed something moved out of the way. Barely any action and when there was it was over in a blink of an eye. The magical descriptions were a joke. There was just a lot of "pushing out" with no real description of how and why. Lana gets over Max quicker than shit. Why can't she just be friends with Simon first? Why must it be relationship or nothing? It's just weird that Max was supposed to have been the love of her life and she was just like. O'well, it's a new year! New year, new baby, and new man!! Watch, in the next book Max will appear again like "surprise! You thought I was dead didn't ya??" Then we shall have that obligatory love triangle we all love. Eric and whatshername popping back up at the end made me roll my eyes hard. Have you ever watched a movie where the bad guy is killed then at the last second he pops back up to grab their ankle? That is what it felt like. That cheesy cliche.
It felt like a zombie story without any actual zombies. I thought the fantasy aspect would compensate for that but we barely get a glimpse of any power. So dull.
Right????I told you to wait for the “Max” thing! First i was like “ummm he’s dead?!? Just like that?!? “
It literally happened in under 20 seconds of audio!!!! She is devastated / he was the love of her life, yadayada... And then two months later she loves the new guy?!?! What?!?!
And the rest was a snooze fest - like you said - so many characters but nothing is really explained, the magical aspect , the “darkness”, the fairies ?! No what, how, why...
I am not excited about book#2 but i will read it eventually , lol ... im semi-invested now
I'll give book 2 a try but I swear to GAWD, Elena, if she brings back Max to force the angst and drama of a love triangle I will DNF on the spot. Idgaf
Hahahahhahahaha same here . I was thinking that , too , but Nora generally doesn’t do that , so I don’t know if she will break the pattern now !Although, Nora generally pairs off her characters straight from book#1 and doesn’t kill off lovers , sooooo she definitely turned a new leaf here !
