So, I don't think anyone will argue that Nicholas Sparks isn't a great wordsmith. His writing is brilliant and easy to read which is probably why he is so famous. However, I found the story a bit flat. About half way through I was ready to put it down and walk away, but I didn't. It was a chore for me to finish this book. I will try another book of his later on, but for now I need a break from a monotonous book.

I do agree that his books can sort of follow a very similar character structure-- small North Carolina beach town, damsel in distress girl, the sort of boy next door character. He will change up the plot. Girl is running away. Add a dog. Add in a supernatural element. Add in domestic violance story. Add a detective. It definately can be a bit monotonous.

I do enjoy his books, but I think there is something I love about the small town life with the characters and not necessarily the story itself.

I do sometimes, but I like to read books as a get away from small town life lol. That's probably why I find his books boring and feeling a bit ordinary. I have read others reviews that this was one of his not so good books, so I will try again. But for now I think I'll stick to something a little more exciting, I've started The Good Girl.

I've been meaning to read The Good Girl. I saw your progress on it. Hopefully, it's good. I need to read The Couple Next Door too.
