"Mother of Invention" and "The Survivors" aka "Space Prison" from Tom Godwin's The Cold Equations and Other Stories?
Thank you so very much, I've been trying to remember this book for the past year. Its that book, thank you.
This book contains 2 stories I remember. One is about a group of men that get stranded on a planet made of diamond, everything around them has or is diamond. They figure out how to use the limited power they have to tow the planet back to earth.
The 2nd story is about a group of humans that get left behind in a perilous planet with heavier gravity than they have ever experienced. They survive and generations later after creating 2 broadcast generators from what little they have, the aliens that left them/stranded them, return after receiving the signal. The people there pretend to be barbarians and then take control of the ship and escape the planet, then take over a larger ship, then realize they can no longer call earth their home since the time on the heavier planet has changed them so much, so They decide to go back to earth to overthrow the aliens but decide that when they do that, they will travel the stars.
