May 2018: The Acceptance World...

Francis Pellow Just finished The Acceptance World and although it wasn't nearly as amusing as the previous two books i enjoyed it. In this book Nick is about the same age i am now and so many things rang true to me (like people who seemed to have such promise at school struggling and vice versa). I said it last month but i think revisiting this book will add so much to my understanding and enjoyment of it, with new elements ringing truer as i grow older.
We got to know Nick much better but again through seemingly minor incidents and side comments. Lots of relationships changed and people seemed to develop more obvious political leanings.
I liked the character of St. John Clarke, although we didn't really meet him much, and the idea that his political beliefs seemed to follow whoever was in charge of him at that time.
Barnaby continues to be a bit of a mystery as he is often quoted and when present doesn't really stand out but is obviously very important to Nick. Uncle Giles is ever present in Nick's mind but rarely present in the story which continues to puzzle me.
Looking forward to the next book. I expect things to become more political again as we must be getting towards WWII now. Having said that it wouldn't surprise me if that was ignored completely and instead Nick ends up writing about something more incidental.
Why is the book called The Acceptance World? Widmerpool's new job seems to be the most minor of plot details.

Vit Babenco Spring is a beautiful season. Everything is in bloom. It’s a season of love and grand pursuits. The Acceptance World is a brilliant last month of the spring.

Michael (mjforgit) I thought I would share a link to a short video (about 3-1/2 minutes) by my favorite audiobook reader, Simon Vance, in which he describes the best book/series he has ever narrated. It is, of course, "A Dance to the Music of Time":

Enjoy & cheers to all!

Thanks Michael! I'm listening to the series on audiobook and loving it.
