Greetings everyone!

I'm Katie, from the Booktube channel Books and Things (https://www.youtube.com/booksandthing...) and I'm hosting this readalong along with Carolyn from Carolyn's Reading Ramblings (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClFw...). I've read the series once before, about six to seven years ago, and adored them - I'm very excited to reread them!

Please use this thread to introduce yourself, what you know about the series, if you've read it before, if you've read any other Anthony Powell, if you have any questions, etc.

Katie

Elinor | 1 comments Hi ! I found out about your channel about one week ago Katie and have been binge-watching your videos since then. You inspired me to go back to Great expectations, started one year ago now and put aside because other things got in the way. So thanks for that. I really want to read more classics, especially English one - I'm French and have been studying French literature, and even though I'm not done with it, I really enjoy English literature and want to read more of them.
I've heard about Anthony Powell on Goodreads some time ago now, read one raving review about his books, and I've been interested to read them since then. I really don't know anything except someone raved about it, but I kind of like to go into my books blind.
I don't know yet if I will commit to all the installements in the series, but I would like to read at least the first or the first two.

Summer (summerdawn7) Hi! My name is Summer, my booktube channel is Tales of Adventure (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTLB...), I am a theatre nerd from Oklahoma, and I love to read classics.

I think I've heard the name Anthony Powell, but that's all. Haven't ever heard of the books, but I'm so down for this readalong and excited to read a new author!

message 4: by Jinah (new)

Jinah Kim | 1 comments Hi! My name is Jinah. I am a bit nervous to join this group because English is not my first language. However, I 'll try my best to keep up with others and join the discussions as much as possible.

message 5: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Tucker Hi! My name is Belinda. I am a mother of two beautiful boys. Dickens and Poe are my childhood favorite authors, so I definitely love classics, but I have never read Anthony Powell. I am excited to join this read-along and hopefully discover a new favorite in the process.

message 6: by Vit (new)

Vit Babenco Hi. I have already read this dodecalogy. But it will be quite interesting to observe how the others perceive this outstanding literary work.

message 7: by Nisreen (new)

Nisreen | 1 comments Hi! My name is Nisreen, a Syrian living in London. I watched the TV series based on the books a long time ago and I adored it. So looking forward to reading the entire series.

message 8: by Hannah Justine (new)

Hannah Justine (hannahjustine) | 1 comments Hi everyone I'm Hannah Justine :D I study Spanish & English language and literature. I was intrigued by the idea of this series and the idea of the readathon sounded ideal. I'm very excited! Unfortunately my library didn't have them, but the bind up editions look beautiful so oh well haha I can't promise 100% ill stick around for the full term since I might be studying abroad in the summer but I'll try my best.

Hannah (hannahsbooks1) Greetings! My name is Hannah and I am newly active on Goodreads. For years I've been drawn to the beautiful editions of Powell's books lined up on the top row of an acquaintance's bookshelves, but I've always been too intimidated by their length to start reading them. A slow read-along sounds like the perfect encouragement! I'm looking forward to discussing the books with y'all.

message 10: by T. Renee (new)

T. Renee Doty | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Renee. I'm a bookish person who loves British literature so very much! I've been curious about Anthony Powell for a while, and I think this readathon will be a wonderful way to discover his work.

Hi all - I'm really excited to reread the series and hope you all enjoy them! Of course feel free to start with the first couple and see how you enjoy them. For those Dickens fans amongst you, I really think you'll enjoy them :)

message 12: by Mike (new)

Mike (mrosen23) | 3 comments Howdy folks. I'm Mike. I've been an acolyte of Katie for a year or so. I've taken part in a few readalongs in the past and really enjoyed them, so I thought I'd give this a try. I like the idea of a series readalong and discovering a new author.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (schmoekereule) Hey guys! I'm Sarah, student from Germany. I love to read classics from all over the world and especially enjoy the british ones. I never read Powell before and don't know anything about this series, so I'm curious to find out! This is also my first readalong, which makes me kind of excited :D

Noelle Matteson (noellevivante) | 6 comments Hello, I'm Noelle (noellevivante.tumblr.com/about), and I'm also here after discovering and binging Katie's videos. XD I recently joined Goodreads and wanted to join a number of book clubs to read more and be part of a reading community. I look forward to seeing how this series goes, since I know very little about it.

message 17: by Historygirl (new)

Historygirl | 1 comments Hello, I am Historygirl. I read US History, but also a lot of fiction from classics to mysteries to anything that takes my fancy. Book Groups help me stay focused, since I am easily distracted to other things I want to read. I have read Powell’s Dance before and can’t decide if I love it or hate it. Maybe this time I will know.

message 18: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Joule (theresajoule) | 1 comments Hello! I am Theresa, I am not an English native speaker, but I love this language and its literature a lot :) I have never read this series, but I know more or less what it is about and I very much looking forward to reading it. I am also very excited to partecipate to this readalong, for it is the first time I try such a thing and it seems pretty interesting :)

message 19: by Francis (new)

Francis Pellow Hi All,
I haven't read this series before or anything by Anthony Powell but am trusting in Katie's fine taste when she endorses this as worth a year of reading.
I am a member of a couple of book groups local to where i live but this is my first time of reading as part of a group on Goodreads.
I will be listening to the unabridged audiobooks rather than reading the books as i find i enjoy classics much more this way.

message 20: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 1 comments Mod
Hi Everyone! I'm Carolyn and my Youtube channel is Carolyn's Reading Ramblings (because I love to read and I tend to ramble lol). I am co-hosting this readalong with Katie and it is my first time hosting or co-hosting a readalong so hopefully this goes well :D I have never read any Anthony Powell before but I am so excited that Katie wanted to do a readalong for this series because she loves it so much so I hope we all enjoy this reading journey for the next year :D Looking forward to everyone's thoughts as we go along.

message 21: by Melanie (new)

message 22: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Mckeag Hi, I'm Sheila from FL. I've been watching a lot of booktube for the past yr & it has changed my reading considerably! I hadn't realized that many of my favorite books as a teen were Victorian classics,so now I've read quite a few more! 1st time joining anything like this & looking forward to reading Powell's books & hearing what everyone has to say.

message 23: by Vera (new)

Vera 4theloveofwords | 1 comments Hi, I'm Vera. I'm living in Belgium. I have never read anything by Anthony Powell before. But from what I know of this author his novels should be right up my alley. Also I love the idea of reading all 12 books over the span of a year. Really looking forward to this read-along!

message 24: by Josie (new)

Josie Lacey Hi everyone, I'm Josie from Birmingham in the UK. I've never read anything by Anthony Powell before so I'm excited to be a part of this read-along. I'm slightly daunted by the idea of reading such a long series of books, but I'm hoping once I start I'll love them!

message 25: by Seonag (new)

Seonag (seonagp) Hi I'm Joanna, from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland. I've never read any of this series or Powell before, but have seen people recommending the books - at the same time have been hunting about for something to get my teeth into, and if possible to read in community.

I just found this group at the end of last week and can't get hold of the first book for a few days so might be playing catch-up for a little while, but really looking forward to the reading adventure.

message 26: by Sheila (new)
