I am in a bit of a reading slump and nothing helps shake off my book blues like something by Nora Roberts. And, it was time for a new installment of my favorite futuristic ass-kicking detective, her too-perfect-for-words husband, and the cast of friends they have built around them.

There was a murder mystery component. It was entertaining and well-written. Saw the twist coming but not how the twist was going to be revealed. Murder, violence, blood....we get it.

What makes me love this series continues to be the evolution of Eve and Roarke's relationship as well as the slow building up of friends for the formerly-friendless Eve. I love that she is constantly surprised that she has friends and that they will be there for her. Eve and Peabody's friendship went to a whole new level as Eve finally revealed her past to Peabody, and Peabody is injured in the line of duty.

And, I know it is cliched, but I was a good, all girls outing with Eve, Peabody, Mavis, Louise, Nadine and Mira.

What I am getting a little worn thin on is the constant rehashing of what happened to Dallas as a child. Yes, it was traumatic and yes I think it is good to address it and continue to interweave those effects on her into the story, but I feel like, at this point in the series, that Roberts doesn't need to spend quite so much space rehashing every single detail. We get it. Fans have read 20 of these books by now.

A great visit to a favorite series and I feel the urge to pick up the next book in the series, so my Roberts binge may not be over just yet.
